Our beloved Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has finally come to a close. As much as I didn’t appreciate season four and five as much as I did the first three seasons, I absolutely adored The last episode of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It was everything that made Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This episode was funny, suspenseful, and, most of all, satisfying.
So let’s do a Marvelous Miss Maisel Ending Explained and review some of my points about how I really loved this episode. I think I have to say this is the perfect ending for what we were given. I do love this episode, and I love how they ended it.
So, let’s just put ourselves in an echo Chamber of why we love Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Not that it’s bad because, you know, we’re only critical of it on the subreddit because we love it so much.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Ending Explained
Miriam finds her spot in the writer’s office at “The Gordon Ford Show,” but she still has plenty of miles to go. After all, as she explains multiple times during Season 5, she is a comic rather than a writer. When she discovers that Gordon’s wife, Hedy was Susie’s college pal, she begs Susie to do her a favor.
She has no idea that Hedy and Susie were way more than simply friends. Susie, however, bites her pride and her sadness to beg Hedy for support, and Hedy promises to speak with her husband.
Gordon reluctantly agrees to put Midge directly in front of the camera. Unfortunately, her time in the spotlight will not be what she expects. Gordon intends to interview Miriam like a writer rather than performing stand-up. Miriam initially plans to suck it up. However, her desire and determination compel her to take a major risk.
Midge frankly admits on camera to the fact that she is a stand-up comedian as the event goes live, and she takes the mic against Gordon’s attempts to keep her away from it. Of course, her act surprise everyone, including Gordon, who asks her to take a place on the couch before saying and winking that she’s fired.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ending takes place in the year 2005, and we see an older version of Midge, and she is living the high life after years of having a successful stand-up career. Susie, her old friend and previous manager, answers the phone.
Susie seemed to be managing well for herself, savoring retirement in Hawaii. The two women enjoy a taped episode of “Jeopardy” while chatting on the phone, laughing happily and exchanging wisecracks until the final end credits begin to roll.
Midge Is Alone On The Top
The ending scenes of the show unfold in Midge’s New York City house in 2005. Miriam certainly paid the highest price for the best in-home design at her lavish apartment, which is beautiful and vast. There’s a lengthy staircase, a huge piano, overhead chandeliers, and numerous forms of high-end artwork.
Even more than Midge’s luxurious surroundings, the property feels lonely. Miriam takes her food alone in the kitchen, despite the fact that a huge dining room table was just set up with exquisite dishes and multiple seats. Though it looks like no one is staying with her, she wanders throughout the house, looking at numerous pictures of her friends and family.
Despite her achievement, Miriam’s loneliness is filled with sadness. She worked long and hard to achieve fame and money, but in her final moments, she had no one with whom to spend her life.
Miriam insisted on packing her week’s worth of activities into a meeting at work without taking a break. It seems logical that she would prefer to keep herself occupied rather than spend time alone in a large empty mansion.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel came to an end, and stars Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein had a lot to say about the show and its beloved characters. It’s difficult to say goodbye to almost 6 years of laughter and affection, but both stars have indicated that they are pleased with how things turned out.
When asked if she would make a spin-off film or a sequel show, Borstein responded that she would do it “in a heartbeat.” Of course, neither Amazon nor anybody else has officially said anything, but we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Midge And Susie
It was good to see Alfie in that last little bit. The whole episode. I was so nervous because I was just so desperate for Midge and Susie to have the break that they’d been working for, and we got it, and we got the bastard.
When Midge looked at Susie, and the shine of the microphone was right there in front of them, and they only had they were minutes to make it work for something that they weren’t supposed to be doing, I was just so ready for it.
It was really like being called back to everything, and it felt so right in that moment. And my heart was pounding out of my chest. That scene was what it was. Something alright. I was so ready for her to take that chance. I wanted it for her so bad, like we’ve been with her for so long.
In the end, Midge got what she wanted, and she wanted that big light. She wasn’t supposed to be a family woman, and she wasn’t supposed to be average. She was supposed to be Mrs. Maisel. I’m glad that they did the callback to see that it looks like she and Joel did without the rest of their lives together as long as I think Joel had been around.
Harry Drake Easter Egg
Now, this is a little Easter egg that I noticed and want to share with everyone that really liked it brought actual tears to my eyes.
The view outside of the 2005 apartment that you see Midge and her colleagues are sitting around, and that view would have been from the Sanrio Central Park apartment buildings. This means that it’s probably the same apartment that Harry Drake had to give to one of his ex-wives.
Just seeing that callback, I was like, “Ohh, I know, I know that view, I know that building, I know where she is, that’s Harry Drake’s old apartment.” Ohh, that Harry Drake scene when he passed away gave me some feelings.
You never know what Midge and Susie broke up about, though, or did they tell us? We see them broken up and see them love each other again, but we don’t know why?
They featured this song, “I Happen To Like New York,” in the last episode of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and I was in tears. I adore this song, and that was just like a personal thing, a personal choice that they made.
Camera Work
Who is in charge of the camera work for this episode, because the zooms into people’s faces was so funny. It really helped to lighten up the suspense when we were trying to get Midge on the show for her act.
Speaking of zooms, the camera work in this episode was breathtaking. It was almost like they put the entire budget into the camera people for this episode. Something about it was just so crisp. It felt like every shot meant something, and it was discussed as magic.
Closure To The Character
Seeing Lenny solo at the beginning of the episode was so hard, and then going back to him being like, you know, well, with Midge in the current day was almost harder because we all know what happened to Lenny Bruce and that probably would have been the year that he would have passed away.
Getting everyone, including imaging, to the show was just so exciting, and then how everyone kind of how rolled to get Rose to the show. And how touched she was, thanking you for inviting her here and getting everyone to call her. Because then she knew that Midge really wanted her to be there.
And seeing Abe come to understand that his daughter is a great person and him being her father really had nothing to do with the fact that she was so great because he was so detached from his daughter, simply because she was a daughter. But he comes to recognize that his daughter is amazing, Marvelous, in fact.
Susie and Midge made it. I’m going to Mrs. It, but I’m so glad it ended when it did. Because you know you can’t have the good thing last forever.
