He was probing him to see whether he was human or god. And only in the latter case, would they have tried to ‘eat’ him because it’s a way to expand a godly domain or ‘site’. They would much rather prefer a human with his powers so he could become a good comrade/follower or avatar. So I’m not quite sure why so many see it as the right retribution she got eaten.

When Jeawan devoured Anderson (Goddess), she lost connection to her Avatar, who is currently being attacked by those guys in the forest.
