It’s the time of the year again when cooking shows go seasonal. In the case of Food Network, it is time to prepare for the most scary, ghoulish, and cadaverous-looking desserts in Halloween Baking Championship Season 9. While the deserts look unedible and even gross, they are made with the best ingredients by talented baking and pastry chefs in the hunt for a winner-take-all cash prize.
Now, I can’t say they taste good, but judging from the ingredients and techniques they incorporate, they sure are tasty. This is the kind of show that people like me with a sweet tooth like to watch, but never on an empty stomach because you can also get hungry. Before the ninth season’s debut on Food Network, we have prepared all the necessary information to enjoy this cooking competition that celebrates All Hallow’s Eve.
Halloween Baking Championship Season 9 Preview
The championship is structured as follows: Each episode has two rounds. In the first round, called the “Preliminary Heat,” the bakers are told their themes and given different amounts of time to make a small pastry (usually cookies or small cakes).
The winner of the first round gets an advantage in the second round, but they don’t know what it is until after the second round is announced, or sometimes not until they’re in the middle of cooking in the second round. The benefit changes from episode to episode. For example, you might use a certain baking mold or ingredient or be the first to choose a certain theme.
The second round is called the “Main Heat,” the contestants have more time to bake than they did in the “Pre-Heat” round. In the final round of the last episode, they have several hours to make a big treat.
This bigger dessert has to fit into a new theme, usually similar to the pre-heat theme. The “Main Heat” winner moves on to the next episode. In every episode except the last one, one baker is sent home. Ultimately, the last three or four contestants compete in a round where the winner takes all.
