The Nurse Series Recap-
The four-episode limited series chronicles the events which took place in a hospital in Denmark. The series follows the events of 2015 that left the people of Denmark speechless. The series begins with Arne getting admitted to the hospital and his brother monitoring him. Arne dies the next morning, and the cause of his death gets revealed to be a drug overdose. His brother George doesn’t believe that his brother died of suicide.
The scene shifts to the next day, and we meet freshly out-of-college Pernille joining Nykobing Falster Hospital as an authorized nurse. Pernille meets her colleagues and is confronted with an already tight-knit team. Kurzman is assigned with Christina, one of the most loved nurses in the hospital, as a mentor to work as a team.
Pernille shifted to Denmark to be close to her daughter’s father. A bond develops between the two nurses, and they start sharing information about their lives. Both of the nurses are single mothers to seven-year-old daughters. Pernille starts to observe that every time Hansen is on the nigh-shift, drama ensues in the hospital in the most-traumatic ways that often lead to dead patients.
Pernille is warned by Katja about Hansen, and her warning makes Pernille realize Hansen’s continuous need for attention. Pernille begins to notice the lies Hansen tells her colleagues to maintain her image of a good nurse. The incident that was the tip of the iceberg for Pernille was when she noticed Hansen reviving a patient by being on top of him, which made it appear like she was having sex with him.
Pernille begins a relationship with her colleague Dr. Niles as she starts observing Hansen being present every time an emergency occurs. Pernille informs Dr. Niles about Christain and her knowingly murdering patients. Pernille and Dr. Niles plan to catch Hansen in the act before making an official complaint about her to the supervisors.
Pernille catches Hansen in action when she tries to give Maggi a patient dose of the drug. Pernille changes the medicine and saves Maggi’s life. Dr. Niles, with Pernille, makes an official police complaint, and Hansen gets arrested.
A case like this was never seen before in Danish history as Hansen was found guilty of giving the sick and weak patients lethal doses of diazepam and morphine, and she w\got sentenced to 14 years in prison. Hansen was also found guilty of giving her daughter higher-dose sleeping pills that can be fatal for children.
During the investigation and psychological investigation of Hansen, it gets revealed Hansen sufferers from a histrionic personality disorder, which characterizes a person’s constant need for attention. The series ended with the revelation that all the nurses working at the hospital have moved on to other hospitals except Pernille, who still works at Nykobing.
