Dark Winds is a series produced by Game of Throne’s George R R Martin and Academy Award-winner Robert Redford and takes inspiration from a lengthy book series written by Tony Hillerman. The show is about two cops from the Navajo Police who have the huge task of policing vast swaths of land, over 20,000 square miles. They are understaffed and under-budgeted, but they have the determination and drive to do it.
Plus, it’s their Native American land, and they know it better than anyone else. Still, that doesn’t mean there are challenges to it; murders, smugglers, cattle rustlers, hustlers, and many other crimes take place, plus the personal stories of Leaphorn and Chee, the two police officers, are explored in detail across six episodes for this sophomore season.
If you like police thrillers with themes of group identification, neo-westerns, and the like, then you should consider watching this show.
Dark Winds Season 2 Preview
Dark Winds takes inspiration from a series of books penned by Tony Hillerman about Leaphorn and Chee. The debut season took inspiration from “People of Darkness and “The Listening Woman”.
Considering that there are more than a dozen books written in this series, the material from which they can pick up material to make these episodes is quite abundant!
Even though we don’t know much about the plot yet, we can be sure that the show will be very different from whichever book it chooses to be based on in the series. Even the characters’ backstories and how they were shown in the first season were very different. The next season will build on that, but the show will still be based on Hillerman’s stories.
Dark Winds Season 2 Cast
For the sophomore season, we can expect the bulk of the cast from the debut season to reprise their roles; there’s no official confirmation on new characters, but we could expect some.
Zahn McClarnon plays Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon plays Jim Chee, Noah Emmerich plays Leland Whitover, Jessica Matten plays Bernadette Manuelito, Deanna Allison plays Emma Leaphorn, Elva Guerra plays Sally Growing Thunder, Eugene Brave Rock plays Frank Nakai, Jeremiah Bitsui plays Hoski, and Rainn Wilson plays Dan DeMarco.
