Let’s know The Mask Filming Locations. Jim Carrey‘s portrayal of a down-on-his-luck decent guy who is empowered by a magical, snot-colored mask 25 years ago solidified his place as a comic king. The story’s beginnings, however, are not amusing.
Based on the 1991 Dark Horse Comics comic books, The Mask is an action fantasy comedy movie from 1994. On July 29, 1994, Dark Horse Entertainment and New Line Cinema co-produced and directed this movie under the direction of Chuck Russell.
The Mask, played by Jim Carrey, who was nominated for a Golden Globe, and Tina Carlyle, played by Cameron Diaz, make up the cast of the movie. One Oscar nomination was given to the film for visual effects. Carrey played 12 roles in films before this one.
The film was filmed in Los Angeles. Here in this article, we will discuss the filming locations of the movie, so keep reading.
The Mask Filming Locations
In what essentially amounts to a live-action cartoon, Jim Carrey is brilliantly cast and is at his most hyperactively insane. ‘Edge City’ is, of course, set in Los Angeles.
Nerdy Stanley Ipkiss (Carrey) works at the well-known ancient Bank of America Building at 650 Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles, which is the “Edge City Bank.” Numerous productions, including Marathon Man, Se7en, Ghost, The Prestige, The Wedding Singer, and Spider-Man 2, were shot on the long-vacant land.
A merger of two Los Angeles hotels, one of which is no longer standing, is known as the “Coco Bongo Club.”
The former Cocoanut Grove nightclub of the old Ambassador Hotel, which was located at 3400 Wilshire Boulevard in midtown, may be seen from the outside. Bobby Kennedy was assassinated there in 1968, and the Ambassador hosted Oscar ceremonies in the Thirties. The building remained deserted for many years before succumbing to the wrecking ball in 2006.
On the site of the hotel is now the NOW (New Open World) Academy, with parts of the circular entryway incorporated into the architecture.
The Graduate, Se7en, Rocky, S.W.A.T., Apollo 13, and Old School are just a few of the numerous films that were filmed here.
The Terrace Room of the Park Plaza Hotel, 607 South Park View Street, facing MacArthur Park, is the interior, however, hidden beneath the décor of faux palm trees, art deco lighting fixtures, and the violet waterfall.
Even though the opulent building is no longer used as a hotel, it is frequently used for filmmaking. More frequently, Barton Fink, New York, New York, and Chaplin have used its Plaza Room.
The abandoned Firestation No. 23, located at 225 East Fifth Street in downtown Los Angeles, is where Ipkiss takes up his loaner car. It also holds the distinction of having served as the inspiration for the interior of the renowned New York firehouse in the Ghostbusters movie.
A prominent location seen in S.W.A.T. and Repo Man, the difficult mask is finally returned to the Los Angeles River from the now-demolished Sixth Street Viaduct east of downtown.
Plot Of The Movie
Almost everyone around Stanley Ipkiss, an Edge City Savings bank clerk, bullies him regularly, including his boss, his landlady Agnes Penman, and car mechanics who take advantage of him. He is a shy, good-hearted, and hopeless romantic.
His pet dog, Milo, and his coworker Charlie Schumacher are his only friends. Dorian Tyrell, a gangster, manages the upscale Coco Bongo nightclub while preparing to overthrow his superior, Niko. To loot Stanley’s bank, Tyrell sends his singer lover Tina Carlyle inside with a hidden camera.
Tina seems to share Stanley’s attraction, but after being turned away from the Coco Bongo, Stanley is left stranded in the dirty harbor of the city with a broken-down rental car. There, he discovers a mysterious wooden mask that he initially mistook for the mask of a drowned person in distress.
When a police officer asks him what he is doing down there, Stanley lies and says he is looking for his mask. When he brings the object home and puts it on, it comes to life, wraps around his head, and transforms him into “The Mask,” a trickster who cheerfully exacts revenge on some of Stanley’s tormentors and terrifies a street gang that attempts to terrorize him by firing real bullets at them but all around them showing that he is unafraid of death.
