“How Did They Build That?” is a TV series that documentation of different kinds of architecture that have never been seen before. The series’ goal is to delve deeper into the history of structures and the physics of how they are made. It explores all kinds of architectural wonders. The series also features architects who give a detailed explanation of the inspiration behind those structures. The sheer amount of planning that goes behind the scenes to make the designs stand out is astounding.
The series started with the first season on 3rd January 2021 and got renewed for the second season. “How Did They Build That?” Season 2 premiered on 10th July 2022. The season is still ongoing with two more episodes on the way. Season 1 was hosted by Scott Rummel, narrated by Matthew Gravelle, and directed by Robin Leach. Both the seasons were aired on the Smithsonian channel, and are also available on Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV. The ongoing show’s second season is hosted by the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Jay Ellis. The show features skilled architects and engineers to break down how those structures are made, be it skyscrapers, buildings, bridges, or towers.

What Happened Till Now In Season 2?
Before its release on 10th July, the creators shared a peek at the documentary series. As usual, they would cover architecture from all over the earth but the main focus will be on the United States. The constructions to be covered in this season are towers, islands, art museums, and bridges. The episode schedule for this season shows that some of the topics have already been covered.
Episode 1 of the second season was called “Rivers & Artworks” where they explored New York City, Denver, and France to examine the beautiful rocky mountains and art museums.
Episode 2 titled “Swamps & Swagger” delved into the architecture of a university built on a swamp. In this episode, they covered another museum in Spain and a New York cultural center.
In episode 3, Retrofits & Airport Glitz, the “Insecure” star takes us to Manhattan, Singapore, and Florida to visit more museums, the Hearst Tower, and the tallest indoor waterfall in the world.
Episode 4 is “Elevated & Elegant” which shows buildings faced by obstacles, but without being limited it created the masterpieces. Examples are shown in the show from Toronto, Louisiana, and Belgium.
Episode 5 or “Skywalks & Suspensions” features structures that defy gravity. From floating bridges to merged galleries, the designs are made to blow minds.
Episode 6 goes “Upside Down & Under Seas”. The most uncomfortable locations have created marvels like Seattle Central Library and Vancouver House. It also features an underwater restaurant that lives a fairy-tale mermaid life.
Episode 7 is the last episode aired before the next one comes out on 28th August 2022. “Steep & Stunning” makes its way from the Swiss Alps, to Miami, to Germany, to Dresden. Jay Ellis explores railways built on steep slopes and a museum that is a treasure box of Military history.
How Did They Build That? Episode 8 Release Date
The last and 7th episode was released on 21st August 2022. The 44-minute episodes are released on Sundays of every week. Episode 8 of season 2 is set to release on 28th August 2022.
The series is broadcasted on the original Smithsonian channel. For a later watch, it is also available on Vudu, Apple TV, and Amazon prime with a subscription. The episodes can be bought separately on Vudu at $1.99 each, or $12.99 for the entire season 2. Amazon Prime is available per month at $14.99, and $139 for a year. It also gives access to season 2 for $16.99. Apple TV subscription is $4.99 per month and is also available for free for a year if installed on an iPhone, iPad, or Macbook.
Episode 8 will bring us “Breakthroughs & Bridges”. Host Jay Ellis will expose the audience to the museum Musée des Confluences of Lyon, London’s Gherkin, and the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge of Seattle. Fans can’t wait for what mesmerizing surprise the show is about to bring and so can’t we.
