The masters of poker will be returning with another episode of High Stakes Poker this week. The season opened with the big announcement that Gabe Kaplan, the much-loved host of High Stakes Poker, would be retiring from the show once again.
First seen on television on January 16th, 2006, the poker series had been announced to have A.J. Benza as the host along with Gabe Kaplan. Gabe used to be a well-known comedian but soon became a pro in poker games. The first season was aired successfully, with viewers enjoying the different environment of the game, as most of the other shows would happen in a tournament setting.
The type of game that’s mostly seen on the show is the popular Poker variant, Texas hold ’em. After airing a handful of seasons, GSN let go of the show’s airing. It made a comeback in the year 2020 when streaming service PokerGO decided to revive it in the later months of the year.
Since then, High Stakes Poker has had new installments each year, with the most recent season 10 airing on January 24th, 2023. We’ll be seeing the High stakes cash games continue to take place for around 14 episodes this season. Pro players such as Daniel Negreanu, Bill Perkins, Andrew Robl, and others will be making a return on High Stakes Poker.
High Stakes Poker Season 10: The Cast
With a professional poker player being the creator of the series, it’s no surprise that the show has managed to become the most watched of its genre. Henry Orenstein, a successful Toy designer, went on to create the show after hoping to introduce something interesting to the normal televised shows. He added the ability to be able to see each player’s cards, and this led to the game’s popularity increasing substantially.
The players that compete in the games are professionals, but we do see new amateurs being a part of it at times as well. Over the years, High Stakes Poker has featured players like Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, and Phil Hellmuth to name a few. Season 10 has so far featured the players Jean-Robert Bellande, Bobby Baldwin, Eric Persson, Chino Rheem, Jennifer Tilly, Ema Zajmovic, and Matt Hanks.
Jean-Robert Bellande is a pro player hailing from Long Island, New York. He became well known ever since he played at the Poker Circuit Event in 2005. Up until now, he has managed to win almost 3 million dollars. The actress Jennifer Tilly will also be playing often in this season of the show. The Academy Award nominee has won many Poker games, including the 2005 World series. Having taken a break from the competitions, Tilly now treats Poker as a hobby.
High Stakes Poker Season 10 Episode 2: Recap
In the previous episodes, we see High Stakes Poker having a new host. Now that Gabe had left the position, it was filled up by another Poker pro player, Nick Schulman. Born in NYC, Nick has been in the world of poker ever since he was a teenager.
The players start the game and Jennifer complains about her lack of luck in the game. As the game proceeds, she manages to get ahold of pocket aces twice. Later, we see Matt betting a huge amount to pressurize other players.
