As nerdy as it may sound, the plot of Killer Book Club, or in Spanish “El Club de Los Lectores Criminales,” is a Spanish slasher film directed by Carlos Alonso-Ojea starring Veki Veilla, Alvaron Mel, Priscilla Delgado, Ivan Pellicer, and Ane Rot.
Before we continue, I must inform you that this post discusses sexual abuse, which many of you may find upsetting. As for the series’ climax, a few plot points need to be explained, and we’re given this opportunity to do so. The film is about a group of buddies —Sebas, Angela, Virginia, Nando, Sara, Rai, Koldo, and Eva— who are members of a book club. These dudes and gals do what most book clubs do.
They together to talk about the latest book they’re reading. Still, things turn dark after a professor sexually abuses one of the club’s members, and the friends’ decision to follow a murderous and dangerous path as part of a revenge plot throws everything into disarray. If you like slasher movies with themes of revenge, deceit, betrayal, and the fuzziness of reality and fiction, this one is for you.
Killer Book Club Topics
After being accomplices in a costume prank that ends in a fateful accident and a pact of silence, a group of young people will be threatened by an anonymous writer who wants to reveal their dark, murderous secret pact.
Their stalker starts to threaten them and begins to do so by publishing horrific online novels based on each of the characters on social media platforms. In each episode, one of the people who helped kill Cruzado dies.
As such, they start to doubt each other, giving vibes of that initial scene in Nolan’s The Dark Knight, where the Joker starts to kill one of the people who robbed the bank. Then, the group of killers will begin a fight for survival in the middle of the campus.
Killer Book Club Storyline
Following Cruzado’s sexual abuse of Angela, Angela and her friends—including her boyfriend Nando—decide to get their pound of flesh out of Cruzado. The crew buys some creepy clown costumes, and then they try to scare Cruzado sh*tless. They kill Cruzado, but those involved remain anonymous in a pact of silence: If one falls, everybody does.

Killer Clown
After Cruzado’s death, a Clown starts to kill the culprits one by one, and he does so by posting a recount of their deaths on social media that scares the rest.
Explained: Killer Book Club’s Finale
The killer is revealed to be Alicia, who also goes by the name of Virginia, and her boyfriend, Sebas. Alicia confided in Angela about the abuse she had experienced at the hands of her book-obsessed mother.
As Alicia’s story inspired the murder and suicide of Alicia’s mother, Angela wrote a novel based on it. However, it turns out that Alicia murdered her mother and that Sebas and she planned the murders of Angela’s friends to frame Angela. They intended for their novel about the experiences to be profitable.
In the movie’s epilogue, Angela and Nando are seen to be still together and alive. However, one last twist raises the possibility that Alicia is still alive and plotting to harm Angela.
The ambiguity of the ending, which raises questions about Alicia’s survival and potential comeback, adds a classic horror element of doubt to the narrative and invites different interpretations. The horror and thriller genres frequently use this type of open-ended resolution to let viewers continue to wonder about the characters’ fates after the film has ended.
Overall, “Killer Book Club” combines traditional slasher film elements with modern storytelling strategies to produce a suspenseful, intriguing story full of turns and turns.
Unlike many slasher films, Killer Book Club is the kind of movie that likes to play with your mind. Still, it doesn’t go at it in the same way that a Scandinavian murder flick would do: With no soundtrack and other scary stuff, no, here, dialogue, plotting, and all sorts of scheming to take place, and that makes this Spanish movie a great one to watch.
