Boruto: Naruto Next Generations: Plot
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations portrays the story and life of Boruto Uzumaki, the son of the former protagonist and current Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki. The series focuses on Boruto, Naruto, and Hinata’s son; Sarada, Sakura, and Sasuke’s daughter and Mitsuki, Orochimaru’s son.
Boruto possesses the Dojutsu eye, a mysterious power that belonged to the clan of Otsutsuki. Momoshiki from the Otsutsuki clan is the villain of the series who is sent to rejuvenate the Sacred Tree by using the power of the nine-tailed beast inside Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage.
Following Naruto’s abduction during the Chunin exams, Sasuke, Boruto Uzumaki, and three other Kages try to fight off Momoshiki, leading to Momoshiki being hit with a massive Rasengan by Boruto. Having been defeated by a young, inexperienced child-like Boruto, Momoshiki realizes the potential hidden within the kid and puts the mark of ‘Karma’ on him.
The story also introduces the ‘Kara,’ headed by an Otsutsuki clan member. Here, Boruto and his squad encounter Kawaki, a hostage captured by the Kara, who will play a pivotal role in the anime series.
It is discovered that Kawaki also possesses a Karma mark, leading him to be taken under the protection of the Uzumaki clan. People who possess the mark of Karma are eventually possessed by the members of the main branch of the Otsutsuki clan, including Boruto and Kawaki.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 292: Recap
Released on March 19th, 2023, episode 292 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is titled ‘Hunger.’ The ending of episode 291 of the series showed Momoshiki controlling Boruto’s body and creating massively powerful Rasengans to fight off Code.
As a continuation of the previous episode, episode 292 starts off with Momoshiki, who has taken possession of Boruto’s body. He engages in a thunderous battle with Code, an antagonist who wields the White Karma, a power characterized by mass destruction.
As the battle rages on, Code decides to escape keeping Kawaki, the adopted child of the Uzumaki clan, as a hostage stating that he has unfinished business with him.
Not letting Code escape, Momoshiki uses a condensed form of the Rasengan to injure Code fatally. Separated from the clutches of Code, Kawaki starts fighting Momoshiki, but the difference in battle power is glaringly visible. However, Naruto and Shikamaru come to the battle soon. Shikamaru uses his abilities to restrain Momoshiki while Naruto aids Kawaki, who is fighting a failing battle.
However, Shikamaru cannot limit Momoshiki, who possesses Boruto’s body. Code then restrains Shikamaru, requesting Momoshiki to finish Naruto. Wanting to exact vengeance for his death, Momoshiki agrees with Code’s plan and gets ready to kill Naruto.
The scene takes a surprising shift when Momoshiki tries to attack Naruto. This triggers Kawaki, who activates his Karma, implanted by Amado. The surprising part is that Kawaki inherits all of Isshiki Otsutsuki’s powers without bringing Isshiki, the man who put the mark on him, back to life. Kawaki is able to retain control over his mind and body.
While the battle was still raging, Boruto was gradually taking control over his own body, which allowed Kawaki to hit him with a Sukunahikona. Kawaki then decides to finish Boruto but is stopped by Naruto, who saves Boruto.
However, the ending scene shows that Boruto understood Kawaki’s actions, deeming them justified. They were necessary, which led Boruto to push away Naruto, allowing Kawaki to unleash a massive punch toward him. This put a hole in Boruto’s body, with the end cut showing himself injured and possibly, dead.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 292: Review
With the way things underwent in episode 292, all eyes are glued on episode 293, the final episode of the arc, after which the anime will take an indefinite break. Of course, the cliffhanger has made fans irritably await (in a good sense) the outcome in episode 293, but there was also a sense of sadness looming around in the atmosphere.
We get to feel the horrors Naruto must have felt as Kawaki, his adopted child, kills Boruto, his biological son. There is not much room to blame Kawaki because Momoshiki had to be stopped, and his resolution to destroy Momoshiki is further doubled when Boruto himself justifies Kawaki’s actions. This was a tear-jerker of an episode.
Studio Pierrot devoted great attention to the details in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode 292. Even though the animation designs seemed lacking, they did a brilliant job of bringing back the old Taijutsu combat employed in Naruto Shippuden during the battle between Naruto and Sasuke.
The same style was used in the battle between Kawaki and Boruto, bringing back old memories. The designs of the ending song have also changed, depicting Kawaki’s Karma. I personally feel that it is too early for Boruto to be gone. However, the heaviness of the episode will echo throughout the hearts of the audience.
Our Verdict
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has received a lot of constructive criticism owing to it being a sequel to one of the most beloved series, Naruto. It has also received a lot of backlash, considering that it does not excel or come at par with the brilliance of Naruto. However, the anime series is a great watch if you give it a chance and do not keep on comparing it to Naruto.
Episode 292 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is emotionally overwhelming, having a brutal cliffhanger that would ultimately be tackled in the finale episode. As the community bids adieu to the production of the anime until further notice, we will have to wait till episode 293 comes out eagerly.
The episode also does a great job of capturing the essence of the battle scene.
Our Rating: ⭐ (4.4/5).
