Synopsis
Jim, our protagonist, is an ordinary man who runs a diner that specialises in Hainanese Chicken Rice. While he wishes to remain detached and avoid falling into relationsips, Wen, our second lead, makes him question his own decision.
Jim meets when while he’s drunk and sentimental. His meeting with Wen made Jim feel safe but embarassed at the same time as he was unwilling to fall for a young guy like Wen. Despite Jim being reluctant at having any feelings for Wen, he cannot ignore the chemistry between them.
Moonlight Chicken is a story revolving around Jim and Wen’s blooming romance, and the life of their friends that are integral to the plot as well.
Recap of Moonlight Chicken Episode 2
The episode begins with Jim and Leng at the diner talking about Leng’s girlfriend, Praew. Leng says she needs a new pair of shoes, so Jim suggests he go buy her a pair. Contemplating whether to go or not since no one would look after the diner, Wen arrives reassuring Leng as he leaves the bar joking about how Jim’s intoxication only led him to work at the diner.
While Leng spends time with his girlfriend Praew, Li Ming joins in their date and tags along. They later go back to the diner and spend time with Wen, Heart and Jim. When the diner closes, Jim tells Wen to leave, but Wen wanted to spend time with him. With the excuse of teaching him how to cut chicken, Wen shows his affection towards Jim which leaves him flustered.
The next day, discussions of Li Ming’s future comes in the picture. While Li Ming is unsure on what he wishes to do, his friends show their privilege of having the choice of going to private unis as they browse through images of pretty girls. Li Ming is uncomfortable and wishes to work and travel instead of pursuing higher education. Jim meets Li Ming at Supoch and tells him to get free tutoring classes and not give up.
Amid Li Ming’s confusion, Jim meets Leng and Praew outside as Leng tells Jim she’s pregnant. While Leng is worried on how he’d provide for his baby, Jim comforts him and tells him he’ll eventually find a way out of this problem and to calm down for now.
The episode ends with Wen finding Jim drunk and alone. As he goes and talks to him, they both start a conversation of their hopes and dreams. While Wen’s dream is to come to a home where someone would be expecting his arrival, The moment felt perfect for Wen to go in for a kiss, but Jim immedietely tells him to stop.
He tells Wen to stop wasting time on an old man like him and focus on himself. He says he can’t fulfill Wen’s dream of being someone’s home.
