Heels, the fictional wrestling show that tells the stories of two brothers as they become the good guy and the bad guy “Face” and “Heel” of a traveling wrestling federation, with their intense drama, backstories, and themes of personal achievement is back on Starz this August with another season full of action and character development.
Developed by Michael Waldron and starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, the show does more than just show us how a bunch of dudes go at fake wrestling in a ring. It tells us their personal struggles, their love lives, the theatrics of a wrestling show, the injuries, and the dark sides behind it. So, today, ahead of the premiere of the sophomore season, we’re bringing you the details you should know about this series.
Heels Season 2 Preview
In Season 1, brothers Jack and Ace Spade each played distinct roles in the wrestling ring: Jack as the “heel” and Ace as the “face”. Their wrestling personas, however, began to seep into their personal lives and aspirations. While Jack and Ace were consumed by their rivalry and their ambition to run the Duffy Wrestling League (DWL), which their late father had established, impatience brewed among other wrestlers.
Larger wrestling groups began encroaching on their territory, culminating in a showdown at the South Georgia State Fair, where the DWL was showcased. In the ring, the brothers face off against each other, exposing Jack’s manipulative attempts to portray Ace as the villain.
Ace, fueled by anger, unleashed an assault on Jack, but Crystal intervened by challenging Ace and seizing the DWL belt from him. In a triumphant twist, Crystal showcased her talent by winning the championship, defying previous expectations that she couldn’t wrestle. Season 2 would likely delve deeper into the discord between Jack and Ace, whose wellsprings of power are at odds with one another, escalating the inherent danger of their conflicts.
The aftermath of Jack’s failed marriage may resurface, adding further complexity to the storyline. The actions of the Florida Wrestling Dystopia (FWD) and its impact on the DWL could become a significant plotline. Given Crystal’s impressive performance, the DWL may even consider establishing a women’s division.
Both tensions at home and in the wrestling arena will intensify, potentially attracting new challengers aiming to dethrone the established stars. Expect Jack to finally relinquish control of the DWL, affording other wrestlers the opportunity to shine. Meanwhile, Ace will face the daunting task of confronting the lingering trauma attached to his father’s tragic suicide.
