The Missing is the ideal show for you if you enjoy anthology series as much as crime thrillers. It deals with unusual cases that primarily center on a person’s enigmatic disappearance in various seasons. Together with Starz, BBC produced the television series. Tom Shankland and Ben Chanan are the series’ directors, and Harry and Jack Williams wrote the scripts. Along with John Yorke, Jan Vrints, Elaine Pyke, Charles Pattinson, Polly Hill, Eurydice Gysel, Willow Grylls, and Colin Callender, they also serve as executive producers. The BBC aired its spin-off series, “Baptiste,” in February 2019.
The Missing Season 2 Ending Explained
Alice Webster, a young woman who had been missing for eleven years, returned home at the start of the season in 2014. A medical examination reveals that she has given birth, and she claims that she was held captive and severely beaten while being held captive. Alice mentions Sophie Giroux, another kidnapped girl, during dinner and describes how they spent the day at a carnival riding roller coasters. When Alice runs into Brigadier Stone, a former acquaintance, she leads the police into a bunker where she is held captive.
Inside the bunker, Julien discovers a receipt that connects him to Kristian Herz, the spouse of former army officer Nadia Herz. Kristian is taken into custody by the police, and Alice sends her brother to meet him at the prison to apologize, implying that Kristian is being set up for a crime he didn’t commit.
Julien
Julien learns that Sophie Giroux, a girl who went missing around the same time as Alice, is the missing girl who returned home. Alice kills herself by forcing her brother to lock her inside the bunker and then set it on fire when Julien confronts her about this. Along with the abducted girls, the kidnapper is identified. In a plot twist, Sophie, who had assumed the identity of Alice, had faked committing suicide and was still alive in 2016. This indicates that during Sophie’s attempted suicide, another person died.
In 2016, Alice’s mother, Gemma Webster, searches through old carnival photographs of the roller coasters to locate her real daughter, who she believes is still alive. She locates a photo of her actual daughter Alice and Gemma and discovers that the photo also includes another kidnapped girl.
Eve
Eve, the previous police officer handling the case, is shown the photo by Gemma. Eve provides Jorn Lenhart, a German detective, with this photograph. He locates the photo and speaks with the mother of the third girl who has vanished. The detective meets with Adam Gettrick, a former military press officer after the mother reveals that Lena Gerber disappeared around the same time as Alice and Sophie.
A child with Sophie’s features appears as if they are talking. She reveals that she is in the basement and displays a drawing of herself and her mother. Lenhart quickly realizes that this child is Sophie’s offspring, who is imprisoned in Adam’s basement. Adam grabbed a power tool and drilled it directly into Lenhart’s skull, killing him before he could react.
Adam’s Past
Nadia explains to Baptise that she was residing with Stone, Adam, and Reed at Camp Jambar in Iraq in 1991 when she was still known as Major Evett. Although Nadia knew that soldiers were having affairs with local women, she chose to ignore the situation. Stone and Reed reported Adam missing during that time, but Nadia did little to track him down.
The two soldiers sneak into the village and discover him sleeping with Mirza Bazani, a 13-year-old girl. After a fight, Adam, Stone, and Reed murder the girl’s father and torch the home. Later, the young Mirza reveals that her sister was present in the house at the time of the fire, and she too perished in it. The information explains why Adam accuses Nadia’s husband of kidnapping Sophie and Alice as payback for what happened.
What Happened to Lena, Alice, and Sophie?
Adam had killed Lena in 2014 because she was “too difficult,” and Sophie had developed a serious illness while in Adam’s custody. By listening in on their conversation about having sex with minors, he uses Stone and Reed, who are now brigadiers, as hostages. Adam asks Reed to assist in caring for Sophie, but he declines. Then, Adam murders Reed.
As there is no other way to help Sophie now that Henry has died, Adam takes her to the woods and frees her, but he keeps her daughter Lucy behind to coerce her into doing what he wants. Adam advises Sophie to pose as Alice and ask for assistance. In addition, he advises her to blame Lena’s disappearance on Nadia’s husband and directs Brigadier Stone to destroy any Lena-related evidence after Lena is burned in the fictitious suicide.
Julien
Julien discovers that Adam is responsible for all the kidnappings in the present and follows him into Switzerland using some evidence he left behind. Sam, Gemma Webster, and Julien are fortunate when a waiter notices Sophie and directs them to the house. As they approach, Adam fires at Sam. Just then, the police show up, and they detain Adam.
Lucy, Sophie’s daughter, is running toward the police as Sophie attempts to kill herself, believing that Lucy is lost. However, Sophie lives thanks to Julien’s success in persuading her. Sam is eventually released, but later succumbs to his gunshot wounds. Adam confesses to all the murders and kidnappings as the season closes. When Nadia’s husband is released from prison, Alice and her brother share a touching reunion. In the season’s final scene, Julien has surgery to remove a brain tumor.

The Missing Trailer
Will There Be A Season 3 Of The Missing?
Season 2 of “The Missing” debuted on October 12, 2016. It was widely praised, just like the first season. Karyo’s performance, in particular, received praise, along with the case’s intricate plotting and the story’s excellent execution. Such success typically enables the networks to offer viewers another season.
However, until they have a good story to live up to the reputation of the earlier seasons, the “The Missing” writers have decided not to pursue this possibility. In an interview, they said there wasn’t much to work with for the upcoming season. Additionally, Julien Baptiste’s spin-off makes it unlikely that the character will appear in a future season of “The Missing” again. Even so, they haven’t eliminated the possibility. It simply requires the right narrative. You can still hold out hope because BBC or Starz hasn’t formally canceled the series. The release date for “The Missing” season 3 will be updated in this section as soon as we learn of any new developments in the show.
