There’s nothing like watching people’s secret identities be brought to light, and MTV’s Catfish is the perfect place for such a thing. With Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford returning for the newest season 9 this time, the catfish reveals are only going to get more entertaining.
Airing on MTV since November 2012, Catfish: The TV Show, shortened to Catfish most of the time, is a docu-reality show where we see the hosts trying to explore the lies that come along with online dating. You could be so into someone without ever knowing who’s really on the other side. Shows like Catfish have got your back as each episode features the host confronting a potential catfish who ruins lives without any guilt.
In the older seasons, Mac Joseph used to accompany Nev too, but after he left the show in 2018, Joseph rarely ever appears on Catfish once in a while. Besides the main series, Catfish has also released all kinds of successful spin-offs revolving around a similar concept.
While the authenticity of MTV’s Catfish remains a mystery, each season brings all kinds of stories and reveals that manage to attract more viewers every time. Season 9 of Catfish is only going to be more intense, as modern catfishing isn’t a joke and gets as dark as risking someone’s life.
Catfish The TV Show: What Happened In Season 8?
Season 8 of Catfish was aired in 2020, starting with the couple Red & Jalissa, who had been together for 6 years but never met each other in real life. While Red assumes she is in some kind of romantic movie with Jalissa, things are anything but good between them. Nev and Kamie had to step in to show her Jalissa’s reality.
In another episode, Nev and Kamie handle a case that’s not about romance, but about blood. A woman keeps claiming to be Sparkayla’s long-lost sister, but her wife, Kiana is convinced that something’s (cat)fishy. A DNA test has to be ordered to find out if Sparkayla does have a sister after all.
The most bizarre of all episodes was the case of William & Jamie. Akirra had been dating William for a while and had started receiving threats from a woman named Jamie. She contacts Nev and Kamie so that they can find out about Jamie.
What happens leaves everyone surprised as it turns out, William had taken thousands of dollars from Jamie before meeting Akirra. Many more similar scary yet real stories were brought to the show, with Nev and Kamie exploring each of them deeply.

Schulman and Crawford will be traveling to all kinds of places in search of the ultimate catfishes. While most of these revelations are going to bring new faces into the spotlight, some may look familiar, as this won’t be their first time on MTV’s Catfish.
