“He wants to erase this world, and I am its memory.” Remember this line yet? The famous quote from Game Of Thrones was said by Bran Stark. At first, GOT successfully managed to ignore Bran. However, it soon became obvious to everybody that he had some deep connections and a history that would turn out to be vital in the future. Well, if you were one who believed so, then you weren’t wrong. Bran did, in fact, play some crucial roles. As a seer, he was already powerful, but nobody could have guessed that he would survive his losing fight against the Night King. Yes, the Night King who was so intent on killing Bran. Who Was The Night King?
The Night King was a mortal man before he became the cruel Night King. He was killed and forced into his present self without his consent, for which he still remains furious. Most of his anger is directed at the Children Of The Forest, who is the reason behind his transformation. Children Of The Forest are a mysterious non-human race who were believed to be the original inhabitants of Westeros, the continent. They already inhabited the continent when the First Men migrated to Westeros.
The Night King was the master and the first of White Walkers. He was also the supreme leader of the Army Of The Dead. White Walkers have been known to exist since the age of First Men. As the Night King, his powers included cryokinesis, necromancy, White Walker conversion, and fire immunity.
Who Was Bran Stark?
Brandon Stark, often known as Bran, was the fourth child and second son of his parents, Eddard and Catelyn Stark. Born and raised in Winterfell, he was a warg and a greenseer, serving as the new Three-Eyed Raven. He was one of the few characters with magical powers and was one of the most powerful human magic users. An extremely curious and adventurous boy, Stark was also really brave.
He belonged to the Stark family, which was a clan stretching back centuries. His family was descendants of the First Men that co-existed alongside Children of the Forest. The Children of the Forest taught their secrets to many of the First Men, which also included the Starks born at the time. Hence, some current generations of the Stark family possess innate abilities.
Why Did The Night King Want Bran Dead?
As we informed earlier, Night King was turned forcibly into his current form by the Children Of The Forest. As a result of his anger at them, Bran was the Night King’s suitable target with all his connections to them. He tried his best to kill Bran, the Three-Eyed Raven but failed miserably. Three-Eyed Raven was a living record of mankind. By killing Bran, the Night King would symbolically wipe out the living and all the memory of them, followed by actually wiping them out. Since Bran was a greenseer, he could see events that happened in the past, present, and future through visions. By killing him, The Night king would essentially erase all memory of mankind.
Did The Night King Really Manage To Kill Bran?
Despite his anger and attempts to kill Bran, the Night King fails to kill him. The Battle of Winterfell was fought in Winterfell was the final battle between the Starks, Arryns, and Targaryens against the Army of the Dead led by White Walkers. The Night King was pursuing his target Bran, during this battle, drawing out his ice blade to kill him. But before he could taste that sweet victory, Arya Stark leaped at him. She plunged her dagger into his chest, causing him to erupt into shards of ice. The death of The Night King marked the end of this battle, making White Walkers an extinct species and preventing the Long night from returning. Bran went on to become the rightful owner of the throne.
