A court case in Philadelphia

Why Are Court Case Shows Popular?

Court case television shows have been around for many years. One of the first and most popular programs of this type was “The People’s Court,” which debuted in 1981. Since then, there have been a number of other successful court case shows, including “Judge Judy,” “Judge Joe Brown,” and “Divorce Court.” These programs continue to be popular with viewers because they offer an interesting and informative look at the judicial system. Landmark cases like the O.J. Simpson murder trial in the 1990s and, most recently, the Johnny Depp defamation trial sparked interest in this television niche. And while the interest fades and comes back, it is always a sure bet for networks to invest in this kind of show.

There are many reasons why people enjoy watching court case shows. First, these programs provide an inside look at the judicial system and how it works. This can be both fascinating and educational for viewers. Additionally, court case shows often feature intriguing real-life stories that are full of drama and suspense. Finally, many of these programs offer commentary from legal experts that can help viewers better understand the cases being presented.

Who Is Judge Mathis?

Judge Greg Mathis is a former Michigan 36h District Court judge. He now works as an author, tv producer, and court show arbitrator who rose to fame in his TV court show Judge Mathis. The program ranks fourth among those with the longest runs in the court programming category, behind Judge Judy (now out of production), The People’s Court, and Divorce Court.

Mathis and Judge Judy have the longest single-production runs with a single presiding judge because Divorce Court and The People’s Court have experienced brief cancellations, re-installations, and judge-role recastings. Judge Judy will cease production after 25 seasons in July 2021, making Judge Mathis, which is wrapping up its 23rd season, the longest-running single-production court show. The second-longest-serving arbitrator in the annals of courtroom television is Mathis.

Her most well-known cases involved the conviction of a police officer for assaulting a motorist in the William Melendez case, a prominent businessman for planning to murder his wife in a Detroit suburb named Robert Bashara, and a father for killing his infant daughter named DeAndre Lane. Robert Bashara participated in the BDSM lifestyle. During Judge Evans’ tenure in the Criminal Division of the Wayne County Third Circuit Court, she presided over a great number of other noteworthy trials.

She has a reputation for effectively interacting with numerous litigants due to her extensive legal experience, charismatic and “electric” personality, and intelligence. Her calm demeanor, wisdom, and no-nonsense demeanor enabled her to fairly resolve legal issues. Over 25 million people have viewed her cases on the internet and social media. She retired from the Wayne County Circuit Court after serving for 22 years and now runs her own law firm, Vonda’s Law, which specializes in handling cases involving business disputes, insurance claims, police misconduct, and medical malpractice.
