Harlan Coben’s Shelter Filming Locations
1. Sea Bright, New Jersey
This place served as a backdrop for the majority of the plot, too. It was the Kasselton in the show. The beaches of this town, as well as the streets and local shops, were used to depict the place where the characters lived. One of the most popular examples is when Mickey meets with Ashley for the first time. This scene was filmed at the Sea Bright beach.
2. Livingstone High School in New Jersey
The location depicted Kasselton High School in the series, and the exterior was filmed here. This is the place where Mickey and all his new friends study. The location was selected by the directors because it closely depicted the description of how the details are written in the book.
3. Princeton University
As we all might already know, Princeton is an Ivy League school which is located in New Jersey. It was used for the filming of the scenes where Ashley is going to school. It has a beautiful campus buzzing with the social life of students. This university was used as a symbol for Ashley to show that she came from a wealthy background and was more privileged than the other kids. It is not yet seen in the show but will be in the upcoming episodes.
4. Trenton in New Jersey
It is the capital of New Jersey and is quite popular for its industrial past. The city is based on the Delaware River. The locations around the streets of the city were used to film the downtown area of Kasselton. The producers wanted to use a location that was a bit darker than Sea Bright to have a darker effect on the plot.
5. Woodbury in New Jersey
This is a town located in Jersey in the Pine Barrens region. The place is quite popular among the visitors for its greenery and nature. This part of the town was used to film the scenes where Mickey, as well as his friends, attend a party. The producers talked about how they wanted a remote and secluded location to create a sense of suspense in the watchers’ minds.
6. Hoboken Terminal
This train station is located in New Jersey. In the series, we see how Mickey and his friends are taking a train from the station in order to go to Princeton. They were about to meet Ashley at this point. Also, this is where Rachel went to pick up a bag full of cash and some IDs, and she faced off with Octoface.
7. Little Falls Police Department
This is a police station located in New Jersey and was briefly used in the series. We saw how Ashely went missing in the plot, and this prompted the police officers to question the people from her locality. It included Mickey and his friends who were questioned here.
