What Happened In Season 1 Of Happy Valley?
We first encounter Catherine Cawood, a homicide detective, in the difficult-to-confront Calder Valley gang culture. Ryan is shown to be Catherine’s grandchild, who has behavioral issues, and her sister Clare, who is recovering from heroin addiction, share a home.
The guy who sexually assaulted Catherine’s child Becky is revealed to be Ryan’s dad, Tommy Lee Royce. Catherine is certain that this pushed her teen daughter to commit suicide soon after giving birth to her son. Kevin Weatherill is working as an accountant.
He works for Nevison Gallagher, the closest friend of his dad, who is also introduced. He is not, however, as harmless as he could seem! When Nevison doesn’t increase Kevin’s income, he creates a scheme with neighborhood gangster Ashley Cowgill to abduct and keep his employer’s daughter Ann for money.
Tommy Lee Royce & Lewis Whippey, three of Ashley’s workers, are brought in to help with the scheme. Kevin attempts to break up with Ashley out of guilt, and it’s too late. Now, Lewis and Tommy have taken Ann hostage.
Once PC Kirsten McAskill stops Lewis & Tommy for exceeding the speed limit, things abruptly take a bad turn. The young officer notices muffled sounds right at the back of their vehicle when they pull over to the side of the highway. Tommy mercilessly runs over Kirsten as he seizes control of a situation.
As Catherine and her coworkers find Kirsten’s headless body by the side of the highway, they are horrified. Catherine then spends the remainder of the season on a fruitless search to track down the criminals and save Ann while trying to cope with her daughter’s tragic fate.
Later, as Catherine goes to see Tommy’s mother, she discovers Ann imprisoned in the basement and assists in freeing her. Catherine discovers that Tommy has met Ryan after class in private, so the pursuit still needs to be done.
Ryan’s bicycle is just outside a yacht that Tommy has already been hiding in when Catherine notices Tommy’s intention to kidnap Ryan and decides against killing her foe. Instead, she saves her grandson.
A Brief Recap Of Season 2 Of Happy Valley
After a brief visit from Miss Wheeland to Ryan’s classroom, Sergeant Cawood immediately starts working at the property. She is, however, not there to discuss Daryl’s damaged Peugeot; rather, his prior altercations have prompted the visit, which is unfortunate given the mess she will discover inside.
When the automobile is spotted, alarms go off, but Catherine handles the situation. Catherine enters the residence after waiting for a response and finds what appear to be two extremely dead bodies. Yet Allison seems to be cognizant despite being overdosed and surviving.
As Catherine assists Allison outdoors, she attempts to learn as much as she can about the site of the crime till Allison finally admits to killing Daryl. While still in shock, Cathy eventually realizes the connection between the wrecked car and the farm.
It seems Daryl is behind all this, and she had a purpose for killing her son, and it just occurred to entail something about shattered glass jars, as Allison later verifies to Catherine. Vicky Fleming’s killing is the only one for which Daryl has admitted guilt.
Therefore, Officer Jodie Shackleton is interested in learning more about Vicky’s enigmatic hidden boyfriend. It appears that John will soon face his day of destiny because he is skating on thin ice. Catherine is distracted by the horrific scene at the property by new knowledge about the Miss Wheeland probe.

It comes out that Frances Drummond had stolen Miss Wheeland’s name and that she is dead. As it turns out, Miss Wheeland was Frances’ sister. While her widower suspects that Frances may have taken Miss Wheeland’s name while assisting him with the papers after his wife passed away, making her action all the more infamous.
This implies that before her connection with Ryan or Royce is in doubt, Frances will be detained on suspicion of theft by gross misrepresentation. Still, it also implies that she won’t be allowed to speak with Ryan anymore, which is admirable.
Although Detective Shepherd visited the farm, his current attention is on locating Vicky Fleming’s murderer. Shepherd wonders if Vicky might have been killed inside the apartment in a hasty assumption based on the notion that whoever set it on fire intended to erase the evidence.
He lingers over John as he and Jodie talk about who could have committed such a thing in the workplace. Because although Shepherd claims to have known John for 22 years and that Vicky’s information was in his cellphone, he says that the mere thought of it made him want to wipe his mouth with soap.
After all these years, Neil finally admits to having a relationship with Vicky Fleming. While John is informed of the news by Catherine, he ignores it as panic sets in, his eyes unfocused. Neil’s admission is the least of his concerns, as two additional witnesses have come forward.
They both describe a well-groomed, middle-aged guy they say they saw with Vicky Fleming some few days after her body was discovered, and there may be surveillance footage to back up their claims. The same night when Vicky got killed, the married woman’s spouse, who had been engaged in an affair with the guy, caught him in the act.
The man reveals that this husband, Detective John Wadsworth, too, was having a fling with an unidentified woman. After giving Catherine his data, the man departs the station, but not before John sees him walking down the hallway. After then, John bolts, followed closely by Catherine.
Tommy’s visiting and phone call privileges have been stopped due to various other visitors, including a Leicester-based fitness teacher and an Essex-based student.
Things To Remember Before Watching S3 Of Happy Valley.
James Norton’s character, Tommy, is the convicted rapist who is now thought to have sexually assaulted Catherine’s kid. As a result, Ryan, Rhys Connah’s character, was born, and Catherine later committed suicide.
Just at the end of season one, Tommy kidnaps Ryan in an opportunity to carry out an apparent murder-suicide but is stopped by Catherine. Tommy was sentenced to prison for kidnapping and raping Charlie Murphy’s character Ann Gallagher, a native of Yorkshire.
While Tommy spent the second season in prison, Shirley Henderson’s character Frances Drummond was brainwashed to assist Tommy to end up making Catherine’s life miserable. The criminal’s little kid, who was also Catherine’s grandchild, was duped by Frances, a loner pharmacist who had become a fan of Tommy’s, by sending letters to him pretending to be his dad.
While serving as Ryan’s academy’s teacher’s aide, she also commended Tommy to him. By the end of season two, Frances finally cut ties with Tommy after realizing he had several outside partners. But this infuriated him because he had thought Frances would be the finest person to torture Catherine.
Nevertheless, it was revealed in the most recent episode that Frances may have caused the greatest rift between Cathy and his son: fans watched Tommy getting a note from Ryan in which he professed his love for his father.
Throughout season two, Cathy looked into a slew of murders that a local young farmer named Daryl Garrs, played by Robert Emms, was later discovered to be responsible for. He told his mother Alison, portrayed by Susan Lynch, who then shot him to death so that he wouldn’t have to go to jail.
Alison was detained when she overdosed but survived. Clare, who is seen as a sister to Catherine, portrayed by Siobhan Finneran, began dating Neil Ackroyd, played by Con O’Neill. Con is an old friend. They both have alcoholism issues, which worried Catherine and resulted in their falling out.
Both fell off the wagon, and Catherine was compelled to detain Neil for public intoxication. But he had committed to looking after Clare by the show’s finale.
