A new retailer listing has sparked speculation over who is developing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2. Norwegian retailer Elkjøp reportedly listed Monolith Soft as the game’s developer, potentially revealing the studio behind Nintendo’s highly anticipated return to the classic 3D Zelda adventure.

Nintendo has officially confirmed that Ocarina of Time is being “reborn” exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, but its own product page currently identifies Nintendo as the publisher without naming a development studio.

Monolith Soft’s Reported Zelda Role Remains Unconfirmed

The Elkjøp listing specifically identified Monolith Soft as the developer alongside Nintendo Switch 2 as the platform. However, retailer listings can contain incorrect or placeholder information, and there has been no official confirmation from Nintendo or Monolith Soft that the studio is leading the remake. Recent reports also indicate that the retailer’s listing has since been changed, further weakening the case for treating the information as definitive.

Still, Monolith Soft would not be an unexpected name. The studio has worked with Nintendo on several Zelda projects, including Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Its experience with creating and supporting large-scale worlds makes its rumored involvement in Ocarina of Time particularly noteworthy.

There is also an interesting connection to comments made by Daiki Iwamoto, Nintendo’s general manager for The Legend of Zelda. In a 2025 interview with Monolith Soft director Yasuhiro Fujita, Iwamoto said,

“I would like Monolith Soft to play a central role as a strong partner in creating the Zelda series from scratch.”

That statement does not confirm Monolith Soft is developing Ocarina of Time, but it demonstrates that Nintendo has considered giving the studio a larger creative role within the franchise.

For now, the remake itself is official, while Monolith Soft’s involvement remains a rumor. Nintendo has only confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.
