With its Japanese theatrical release just days away, Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to (You, Fireworks, and Our Promise) has unveiled a new promotional video ahead of its July 17 debut. Released on Thursday, July 9, the special “theme song mashup” video offers fans another look at the upcoming anime film.

The video combines scenes featuring the film’s two main characters with real footage from the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show, one of Japan’s most famous summer fireworks festivals. Set to the movie’s theme song, it highlights the real-life inspiration behind the story while building anticipation for the film’s theatrical release.

Fan Memories Bring the New Promotional Video to Life

One of the most unique parts of the new promotional video is how it brings fans into the celebration. The film’s production committee invited people to submit photos of their own fireworks memories, allowing real experiences to become part of the campaign.

The finished video combines those fan-submitted images with scenes from You, Fireworks, and Our Promise, creating a heartfelt tribute to summer festivals and shared memories. The mix of real-life photographs and animation gives the promotion a warm, nostalgic feel that matches the movie’s emotional themes.

Rather than focusing only on new footage from the film, the video highlights the connection between the story and the audience. It celebrates the memories that fireworks create while building excitement for the movie’s theatrical release.

Timelesz’s New Ballad Takes Center Stage

The promotional video features “Kienai Hanabi” (“Eternal Fireworks”), the new theme song performed by the seven-member idol group timelesz. The emotional ballad serves as the film’s main theme and is scheduled for release as the group’s second single on July 29.

Timelesz also has a deeper connection to the project. Member Shōri Satō makes his voice acting debut as the film’s male lead, Makoto Natsume, bringing both his singing and acting talents to the production. The combination of the new song and the emotional visuals helps set the tone for the film. Together, they highlight the themes of friendship, memories, and the importance of making every moment count.

A Story Inspired by the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival

You, Fireworks, and Our Promise follows Makoto, a quiet teenager from Tokyo, and Aki Hayama, his talented and popular classmate. Their lives become connected after discovering a mysterious drawing of a fireworks display that appears to hold the power to change fate.

As the story unfolds, the pair must face important choices while racing against time. The film blends romance, drama, and fantasy with an emotional story centered on memories and the people who shape our lives.

The story takes place against the backdrop of the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival in Niigata Prefecture, one of Japan’s largest and most famous fireworks events. The voice cast includes Nanoka Hara as Aki, Rie Takahashi as Haru, and Natsuko Yokosawa as Makoto’s mother alongside Shōri Satō.

The Creative Team Behind the Film

The anime film is directed by Kei Suzuki, with Kōhei Mori writing the screenplay and Yūji Watanabe handling character designs. Animation is produced through a collaboration between SynergySP and The Answer Studio, with Shin-Ei Animation overseeing production.

The movie is based on Kaori Mado’s light novel of the same name, featuring illustrations by Akamoku. Shogakukan published the novel under its Gagaga Bunko label in December 2025.

Ahead of its Japanese theatrical release on July 17, 2026, the film also received an international showcase through the Tokyo International Film Festival Goes to Cannes program at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival, giving global audiences an early look before its official debut.
