The show that led to the start of the Chicago Franchise, Chicago Fire, is going through a major change for its upcoming new 12th season. One of its regular cast members, Kara Killmer, has announced her leave from the American drama series.
Michael Brandt and Derek Haas’s show Chicago Fire features the professional and personal lives of people like paramedics, firefighters, and other similar workers who are a part of the Chicago Fire Department.
Working at Firehouse 51, the skilled personnel handle all kinds of fatal cases and go through dangerous situations to save the lives of many people. The various quads and teams are led by the Battalion Chief Wallace Boden.
Kara Killmer used to play the role of Sylvie Brett on the show, a paramedic who becomes a part of Ambulance 61. Ever since Killmer showed up for the 3rd season of Chicago Fire, she has been a regular in almost all of the episodes.
Why Did Kara Killmer Leave Chicago Fire?
After more than 190 episodes, Kara Killmer has decided to leave Chicago Fire for good. This comes as a surprise for many, as the 11th season had her in both the premiere and finale episodes.
While Kara hasn’t disclosed the exact reason she’ll be leaving the Chicago Fire crew, the actress seems to be leaving the show on good terms and has no hard feelings about it. Killmer took to Instagram to share her thoughts about leaving the show, along with some heart-warming pictures she has taken with the crew over the years.
Killmer had joined Chicago Fire in its 3rd season and was a replacement for Leslie Shay. Her character, Sylvie Brett, is a naive small-town girl from Fowlerton, Indiana, who has a hard time adjusting to life in the big city.
A lot was shown about Sylvie’s life, such as her finding a new boyfriend, breaking up, moving on, and continuing to work as a great paramedic. She soon released her vulnerable mindset and became a fierce woman in Ambulance 61.
The most recent of Sylvie’s relationships was with Captain Matthew Casey, who was Dawson’s ex-husband. She dated him for a while but ended the relationship when the 11th season of Chicago Fire first premiered.
Matthew Casey, played by Jesse Spencer, was one of Chicago Fire’s main cast members ever since its first season. He was written out of the American drama by making Casey shift to a different state, as he had to be the one to take responsibility for Andrew Darden’s sons. The aloof yet respectable captain would still show up occasionally, but nothing as frequent as his initial appearances.
Brett felt that her relationship with Casey wasn’t working out, especially after he moved to Oregon to take care of Andy’s sons. After ending the season, Sylvie assumed that she would move on easily, but that never happened.
Just before season 11 ends, we see that Casey comes back and proposes to Sylvie out of nowhere. At this time, Sylvie was already busy taking care of the baby she had recently adopted, so this proposal came as a complete surprise for her.
This ending also gives a foundation for building the perfect ending for Sylvie and Casey’s stories. Brett would likely say yes and move in with Casey in his Oregon home. The finale episode of season 11 never showed us the answer, but seeing where the plot is going, it’s a predictable answer.
Kara Killmer won’t be leaving Chicago Fire immediately. Instead, she will be seen in the first few episodes of season 12 and will eventually be written off from the show. Matthew Casey and Sylvie Brett would hopefully have a good ending to their relationship.
Chicago Fire: What’s The 12th Season About?
Chicago Fire has planned the exciting release of its 12th season in early 2024. With almost 13 episodes planned, it’s going to be interesting to see how they’ll showcase Casey and Brett’s exit.
Besides this, the drama series would also feature new cast members and storylines that we haven’t seen on Chicago Fire yet. The first few episodes would likely show Sylvie and Casey marrying each other or at least being engaged before moving to their new home in Oregon.
With new cast members coming up and old ones leaving with a wholesome ending, there’s much to look forward to in the upcoming season of Chicago Fire.
