Charlie Clapham played a fictional character, Freddie Roscoe, on the British soap opera Hollyoaks, which aired for the first time on Channel 4 in 1995. However, Freddie appeared for the first time in Episode 3596 on 06 May 2013. Soon, he became a fan favorite, and people could not handle his absence from the series.
Freddie hails from South Africa and is the son of Sandy and Alan Roscoe. He has two siblings and three half-brothers. Freddie’s wife was Sinead O’Connor from 2014 to 2015, and Lindsey from 2015 to 2016. He is a father of one, Lexi Roscoe.
Apart from that, Freddie had affairs with Ellie Nightingale, Maxine Minniver, Mercedes McQueen, and Marnie Nightingale. Charlie claimed Freddie to be about twenty-six years old in 2013.
Currently, Charlie is extremely grateful to reprise his role again. He will reconnect with his half-brother Darren, who will in turn try to reconnect with his isolated kids.
Why Did Freddie Roscoe Leave Hollyoaks?
Freddie Roscoe’s final scenes aired on 24 April 2017 on Channel 4. On the one hand, the writers and the producers wanted to end the character’s storyline. On the other hand, Charlie Clapham thought it was the right time to leave because he had already portrayed his character for four years.
Charlie was interested in knowing what end would the writers and producers write for Freddie. Fortunately, Freddie escaped the show as a hero instead of getting killed off which left a door open for him to return.
Nick Savage (played by Ben-Ryan Davies) arrived in the series on 21 September 2016 and molested Freddie’s girlfriend, Ellie Nightingale (played by Sophie Porley), when she was unconscious due to alcohol consumption. After that, he forced himself on Holly.
Holly reported Nick to the police, but he was released on bail due to insufficient evidence. However, Freddie got furious after learning that his girlfriend, Ellie, was molested by Nick. He took the law into his own hands and brutally attacked Nick.
Nick said Ellie slept with him of her own will. Thus, the furious Freddie punched him in the face, and he fell unconscious in the hot tub. Holly and Dirk got him out.
Freddie knew he would be behind bars for twelve years for attacking Nick. Thus, he asked his half-brother, Darren Osborne, for help and left Hollyoaks as a hero. Ellie was ready to join him, but he did not want to separate her from her family. Thus, the couple bid an emotional final goodbye.
Nick confessed to Dirk that he slept with Ellie and Holly without their consent. Thus, Dirk called the police and got Nick arrested. Nick’s family disowned him, and he was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. His last appearance was on 29 June 2017.
Charlie’s Journey As Freddie
Charlie’s casting as Freddie was announced on 29 April 2013. He underwent a long auditioning process and won against twenty-five candidates. Freddie is rebellious, unpredictable, and energetic but sometimes makes wrong decisions. The charming and mature Freddie arrived second from the Roscoe family.
Freddie arrived in a village in the series while hunting for a job and a place to live. He lived according to Sandy’s principles and punished Robbie, who became a robber after entering the village.
Freddie worked as a mechanic for Roscoe’s Motor Maintenance for three years and a barman at The Dog In The Pond gastropub for one year until his departure.
Soon, Freddie became a fan favorite and received nominations for being the best actor, the sexiest male, and more. Freddie was said to have been murdered by his best friend, Lindsey, but people liked the character so much that they threatened the makers of not watching the series if it died.
Later, it was revealed that Charlie went on a break, and his character, Freddie, was still alive, which shocked the fans.
Freddie Roscoe’s Return
Freddie, who did not appear in Hollyoaks for seven years, is said to return this year with a full-time role, though the exact date is not revealed. Bryan Kirkwood introduced the character in 2013, and Hannah Cheers and Angelo Abela will introduce it this year.
Fans assume Freddie must have spent those seven years with his daughter (Lexi), mother (Sandy), and two half-brothers (Jason and Robbie) in South Africa.
Freddie was the last member of the Roscoe family. So, let us see whether he brings another Roscoe this year. Charlie, who portrayed Freddie, reportedly said that being the last Roscoe was saddening because he felt lonely in his family members’ absence.
