One of the major change that happened this year is the list of awardees were shortened to gender-neutral categories, which means there was no bifurcation in male and female awards. Only one male or female actor was selected to receive the award, such as the Best Lead Performance Award and Best Supporting Performance Award.
The occasion was brought to glory with 37-year-old Indian – American comedian and host Hasan Minaj, who is popularly known in the American Stand-up comedy world, and the reintroduction of the Best Breakthrough Performance Award, which ceased in the year 2005, baffled everyone.

The film and TV nominations were already announced through YouTube in the months of November and March. The film Everything Everywhere all at Once (8 Nominations) was followed by Tar which received 7 nominations, and Aftersun, which received 5 nominations. The TV Show The Bear, Abbott Elementary, Severance, and Station Eleven were nominated for multiple awards.

38th Independent Spirit Awards: Streaming Guide
The Independent Spirit Awards 2023, which nominated and awarded the best independent films, series, and actors of 2022, was held on 4th March 2023 at 5:00 ET and 2:00 ET. The occasion was supposed to be broadcasted on the television channel IFC; however, unlike last year, the show was live-streamed online instead.
