Animal Planet’s wildlife conservation-themed series, Yellowstone Wardens, takes us through the risky jobs of conservation officers working in and around Yellowstone. The series has been airing on the platform since January 15th, 2023.
With the rise of Western-themed shows in recent times, Animal Planet decided to come out with a series that documents real-life officers at work. These people, who refer to themselves as Game Wardens, are trained individuals hired to protect the wildlife of a certain area. With the increasing cases of illegal poaching, it’s up to these officers to try and catch these people who exploit nature for money.
Asides from catching game violators, these conservation officers also tackle cases of wild animals causing chaos within a town. Educating people about various species that are native to the land is something that these conservation officers do regularly too.
TV Series like Yellowstone & its spin-offs, as well as Joe Pickett and many other shows, have increased the viewers’ curiosity over how these towns near Yellowstone National Park operate, and that’s what Yellowstone Warden’s all about. It will give us an inside look into the daily jobs of these professional wildlife officers.
Yellowstone Wardens: Filming Locations
The name gives the filming location away, but that’s not where the entirety of the show takes place. Yellowstone Wardens mostly revolves around officers based in Montana in general.
Montana, Western United States:
Filled with mountains and dry terrains, just as the name suggests, Montana is considered the fourth largest state in the US. As big as the state is, Montana has the least amount of people living within its cities, making it mostly wildlife and other animals that have adapted to the mountains and prairies.
Also called “The Last Best Place,” “Treasure State,” or “Big Sky Country,” Montana has to offer some of the most scenic hilly locations in the world. The land is abundant with all kinds of animals as well as minerals, which is why it has been popular for centuries.
The state of Montana does offer training services for ambitious wardens. The course involves a rigorous training and hiring process that only the fittest make out of. It’s not easy to be a game warden, and one look at Yellowstone Wardens will show you why. They have to prove themselves by completing tasks for a year, after which these game wardens are given permanent positions.
Just as we see on this Animal Planet series, they’ll have to travel to various places in Montana to complete the job given to them. This may include catching a wild animal, catching illegal fishermen, arresting poachers, or even investigating mysterious cases connected to Montana’s wildlife.
Once they become a permanent peace officer, Montana Game wardens will be able to arrest people and issue warrants just like any normal police officer would. There are different kinds of departments, and an officer can either be a Field warden, a captain, a sergeant, an investigator, or just a trainee.
Animal Planet knew what they were doing when they chose Montana as the filming spot, as it’s well-known for its Yellowstone National Park and also has an active group of game wardens that engage in exciting cases each day. Montana is a good place to visit and has a high number of tourists each year, mainly due to its picturesque lands and interesting wildlife.
Yellowstone Wardens: About The Show
Each episode usually begins with the wardens reviewing the case for the day, after which they all decide to send the proper officers to investigate the problem. Every episode features more than one case, which is what makes the show interesting and worthwhile, as they don’t drag one case for hours.
They also go all out when they know that the violator is going to be a hard catch. A full-on investigation is performed when they spot a killed deer that seems to have been a victim of illegal hunting. One case they featured on the show had them chasing a hunter who was responsible for the death of more than 20 deer. It is a good show to watch if you’re into Western culture and history.
A new season of Yellowstone Warden is now available, and all episodes can be streamed on Animal Planet GO.
