Ever since the first episode of Black Mirror came out on the 4th of December, 2011, the show has captivated audiences worldwide, garnering one of the biggest global audiences ever. This British anthology television series is the brainchild of writer, television presenter, producer, satirist, and filmmaking genius Charlie Booker.
While the show itself is quite genre-defying in itself, we can safely call it a sci-fi dystopian speculative fiction. The show currently has a total of 27 episodes spread across 6 seasons, with a special episode and an immersive and interactive film titled “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.”
In 2011 and 2013, on the British network “Channel 4,” the first two seasons of the series as well as the 2014 holiday special named “White Christmas” were broadcasted. Following the show’s success, it was transferred to Netflix, where four additional seasons of the show ran in 2016, 2019, and this year, in 2023. The show, with its one-of-a-kind mind-bending concepts, became so widely popular among fans that Netflix created two related webisode series and a companion book to the first four seasons, titled “Inside Black Mirror,” which was released in the year 2018.
Each episode presents a standalone story, narrating the tale of new characters each time. While most episodes are set in near-future dystopias and are mostly absurd and chaotic, the inspiration for the show was Rod Sterling’s “The Twilight Zone,” another American sci-fi horror show that ran from 1959 to 1964.

The enormously successful show took a hiatus for nearly four years during the Covid pandemic, but it has returned for another season, which happens to be the sixth one. With audiences gaining more interest in the show not only in Europe and North America but in other parts of the world as well, fans often want to learn the details behind the well-crafted picturesque scenes of the series.
Where was the sixth season of the hit show filmed?
This installment of the show has a total of five episodes, most of which were shot in different locations in the United Kingdom, Scotland, and Spain. However, several scenes were also shot in the United States. Let’s take a look at all of the show’s locations episode-wise.
Crowthorne, England
An artificial intelligence-inspired parody of Netflix called “Joan is Awful” appears in the first episode. Annie Murphy, the Schitt’s Creek star, portrays a successful CEO of a software business who learns that her life has been completely turned upside down and that she is the subject of a brand-new popular television series.
She lives in an American bungalow-style three-bedroom house. This location is a state on the outskirts of London, in Berkshire, named Crowthorne. Other locations featured in this episode include Botanica Ditton Park in Datchet, near Heathrow Airport in London, and St Barnabas with Christ’s Chapel in Dulwich Village, London.

Scottish Highlands
Episode two of the show “Loch Henry” transported the viewers to the gorgeous Scottish Highlands for more gruesome and horrifying tales of human depravity. Inveraray, a town in Argyll and Bute situated on the western shore of Loch Fyne, was used as the prime location for exterior shots. The George Hotel at 1 Main Street served as the location for filming the exterior of The Lochside Inn pub. Some of the scenes took place in the Village Inn in Arrochar, a town close to Loch Long’s head. Additionally, Falls of Falloch and Royal Festival Hall also appear in the episode.
Rye, East Sussex
The third episode, titled “Beyond the Sea” features Rye in East Sussex, England, a peaceful beach town with a rich history. Other locations that make an appearance include a retro-futuristic home in L’Eliana, a small town close to València, and an American farmhouse in the English countryside of Kent, which is roughly a 40-minute drive from London.

Spanish province of Malaga
The fourth episode of the show, called “Mazey Day,” features our protagonist, Zazie Beetz or Bo, for short, a paparazzi photographer who tries to capture pictures of the wildly famous actress and our titular character Mazey Day. The Jose Carlos Hostel in Puerto de la Torre, a casino next to the Red Dog Cinemas in Puerto Banus, Marbella, the renowned Alpsee Lake near Hohenschwangau in southwest Bavaria, Germany, and a village called Ojén are all shown, in addition to the peaceful Spanish province of Malaga.
The North of England
The majority of filming of the last episode, “Demon 79,” took place in the North of England. The finale is set in the seventies, and it is believed that a largely significant part of it was filmed in Glasgow. The old Debenhams shop is a location in Harrow Town Centre of England. Another noteworthy locale is the Palm Tree pub in Mile End Park, London, where our protagonist Nida, played by Anjana Vasan, goes to take a few drinks.
