There wouldn’t possibly be an anime fan out there who hasn’t heard of the name One Piece. Infamous for how long it is, One Piece still commands countless fierce and loyal fans around the world, and the anime has given everything for them.
One Piece anime has climbed over 1000 episodes, yet there is a multitude of mysteries still lingering everywhere. Although a lot of time and episodes had passed since the beginning, we still don’t know much about some of the characters and their motives. Hell, we don’t even know what the treasure called “One Piece” actually is!
Even after all this time, One Piece still manages to hold the fans’ utmost intrigue without leaving any of them with the exhaustion of 1000 episodes. It still works to keep the fans theorizing about the details, making them even more involved in the story’s processes. And that is a truly commendable and praise-worthy achievement.
There’s even a saying in the anime/manga community that ‘once you’re engrossed in the exceptional world-building style of the series, you can never be not a fan of it’, and that’s exactly the truth. The uniquely interesting and mysterious ensemble of characters and the breathtaking level of world-building details are some of the best attributes that made the series as big as it is now.
Written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece manga has been in circulation in the Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 1997, and it is still going on after two and a half decades. As of August 2022, all the individual chapters have been collected into 103 volumes. Both in 2015 and 2022, the manga held the Guinness World Record for being the “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”.
Helmed by Toei Animations, the manga has been adapted into anime and has been broadcasting since October 1999. It has already climbed over 1000 episodes in the year 2022, making it one of the longest-running animes ever.
The anime/manga storylines can further be classified into story arcs, and Marineford Arc is widely considered one of the best arcs. If you’re on your path to completing the anime and want to know when this amazing arc gonna start, then here are some details that you might wanna know.
What is One Piece About?
Before we start, let us set up the context and tell you a little about the story.
In the world created by One Piece, Gol D. Roger is the strongest and most influential person to have sailed the Grand Line and is notoriously known as the “Pirate King”. But his reign was interrupted by the organization called the World Government when they captured and executed him. This news made waves around the world not only because of the death of a notorious personality but also because of what he told the world in the last moments of his life.
His last words told the world about the existence of the greatest treasure he had found in his life, the One Piece. This mysterious treasure promised unimaginable wealth and unrivaled glory in the world of pirates. It even promised the bearer to be the next “Pirate King”. Hence a new Grand Age of Pirates began, and all the pirates in the world set out to find the legendary treasure.
Now, we follow the story of our main hero Monkey D. Luffy and his companions. Luffy is a 17-year-old who doesn’t conform to the normal image of a pirate. Rather than becoming a pirate for the full enjoyment of violence, he is a boy who just wants to experience the exciting and amusing feeling of finding new lands, meeting new faces, and ultimately achieving the glory of the One Piece.
Hence as he followed the footsteps of his childhood hero, Luffy set sail with his friends on the Grand Line, discovering new mysteries, and battling strong fiends, all for finding One Piece and becoming the next Pirate King.
What Episode does Marineford Arc Start?
Although, technically, the beginning of the paramount Marineford Arc is with the One-Piece Episode 457 titled “Special Retrospective Before Marineford – The Siblings’ Vow!”, it mostly talks about the backstories of the characters and how all of it ties together in the end.
The actual commencement of the war starts with Episode 461, titled “The Beginning of the Battle! Ace and Whitebeard’s Past,” when Luffy and the gang drop down from the sky in a broken ship. With this, the war between the Whitebeard Pirates and their allies against the entire might of the marine force, including the Seven Warlords of the Sea, commences on the island of Marineford.
