The latest episode of Vinland Saga Season 2 was on the aftermath of the battle between the Canute army and Ketil’s farm people. The fight between them did not turn out well for the farm people. Most of the farm people were killed, and many were severely injured. The aftermath of the battle was nicely shown from Olmar’s perspective. It showed us how the outcome of the wars resulted in reality. Olmar who loved to go to war, now hated it the most.
Seeing all things, Thorfinn decides to talk with Canute. However, the soldier wasn’t letting him go to talk with Canute. And Canute also didn’t find it necessary to talk with Thorfinn. The only choice left with Thorfinn was to bet on him to meet Caunte.
The episode was nicely animated by Mappa Studio. They didn’t lack anything for animating the episode. From showing us the aftermath of the battle to the scene where Einar was grieving over Arnheid’s grave. All were marvellously animated.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 21 Recap
The episode starts with the aftermath of the battle between the Canute Force and Ketil. The Canute’s soldiers started placing the body of the dead people on the ground. Folki suggested to Canute that they should requisition homes on the farm. However, Canute denied his suggestion and told him all the forces were forbidden from entering the farm. If the soldiers would have entered the village, they would begin pillaging. The goal of that battle was to requisition the entire farm, not pillage it.
Later we see Einar grieving over Arnheid’s grave. But when he looks around he couldn’t find Thorfinn. In the next scene, we were shown the aftermath of the Ketil’s people from Olmar’s perspective. Many people were dead on the ground and heavily injured. This wasn’t the scene Olmar expected when he decided to go to war. Later in the episode, we see Snake telling Kelil’s family about the note which was sent by Canute. That note stated whether to continue fighting or surrender.
Thorgil wanted to battle with Canute. However, Shverkell told him that he wasn’t the one to decide that. The one to decide that was Ketil’s successor, Olmar. After seeing the horrific site, Olmar told them they would surrender. Next, we see Thorfinn in Canute’s base. He was there representing Ketil and wanted to talk with Canute. However, one of Canute’s soldiers didn’t let him meet with Canute. On Thofinn’s arrival, many soldiers gathered in one place.
Canute saw them gathering, so he asked Wulf about the commotion. Wulf told him that one of Ketil’s representatives had come and not Ketil, so they were letting him in. He told Canute that the representative identified himself as Thorfinn, son of Thors. Hearing Thorfinn’s name shocked Canute. Wulf asked Canute if he wanted to meet him, but Canute refused it, as it won’t be necessary.
Drott (Canute Solider) kept attacking Thorfinn, but he did not land any blow on Thorfinn as he was quick in dodging. Einar arrived at the scene where Thorfin was. Einar suggested they should leave as there was no point in talking with Canute. Thorfinn saw the gathered soldiers betting on how many punches he would take before going back. Thorfinn told Drott (Canute Solider) that he wanted to bet on himself. And rather than taking money as a prize, he wants to talk with Canute. Thorfinn bet on him for taking a Hundred punches from Drott. The episode then ends with Dortt trying to punch Thorfinn.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 22 Spoilers and Expectations
In the next episode, we will see Thorfinn taking on a hundred punches from Drott (Canute soldier) to meet with Canute. After four years, Canute and Thorfinn will reunite to discuss how they see things. Thorfinn will tell him about his plan for Vinland, a place where no war will happen. And Canute will explain Thorfinn about his plan to make a utopia from the Vikings. It would be a heck of a reunion.
