A recent community board post has rekindled discussions around TXT’s Yeonjun and his views on the challenges faced by male idols in the K-pop industry.
Yeonjun’s remarks were made during his appearance on GOT7 BamBam‘s YouTube channel, ‘Bam House,’ where he addressed the difficulties encountered by fourth-generation male idol groups.
In the interview, BamBam noted the different dynamics between K-pop generations, asking Yeonjun about his experience as part of a fourth-generation group. Yeonjun openly shared his perspective, stating, “As a fourth-generation group, I feel like it’s a bit difficult.
Male idols get less attention, which is unfortunate, and I hope that male idols receive more spotlight.” This sentiment was echoed by BamBam, who acknowledged that many male idols have long desired greater public attention.
Yeonjun also expressed his desire for male idol groups’ music to gain more appreciation, pointing out the dominance of girl group songs on music charts.
“If you look at the charts, they are mostly girl group songs. Although their songs are good, male idol groups also have a lot of really good songs, which is a bit disappointing,” he said.
The resurfaced post has ignited a broad debate among netizens, with varied reactions reflecting the complexity of popularity dynamics in K-pop.
Some fans agree with Yeonjun, highlighting the stylistic differences and the core fanbase strength of male idols, which often translates to higher album sales. However, others argue that to capture the public’s interest, male groups need to produce simpler, catchier songs.
