You blinked, and Transformers reached its 40th anniversary. Hasbro introduced the franchise in 1984, and it has expanded into animated series, blockbuster movies, and popular video games. Fans have followed the Autobots and Decepticons for decades, watching them evolve through different generations.
To celebrate this milestone, the Japanese YouTube channel T-SPARK released a special short film titled We Are Not Alone. This stop-motion animation tells a standalone story and brings a fresh perspective to the Transformers universe. The full seven-minute short film is available in this article.
The short film presents a fun and engaging story. It begins with two versions of Optimus Prime meeting each other. One has already transformed into robot form, while the other arrives in truck mode and performs a smooth transformation.
They stand on a desk, looking at a massive collection of Transformers toys displayed on an entire wall. Their peaceful moment is interrupted when Megatron, one of the franchise’s main villains, appears. However, an unexpected threat changes everything. A robotic vacuum cleaner malfunctions and becomes a dangerous enemy, pulling miniatures into its powerful suction.
The situation quickly turns into an intense battle for survival. This type of action is familiar to anyone who follows Transformers. Just when things seem hopeless, Megatron manages to wake several action figures, and they immediately join the fight.
The figures come together, much like in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and form Devastator. This giant character first appeared in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and is known for its overwhelming strength.
Devastator matches the vacuum cleaner’s power, creating an exciting showdown. Finally, the original Optimus Prime steps in and stops the battle, restoring peace.
Transformers Continues to Grow
The 40th anniversary is a great reason to celebrate because Transformers remains popular and continues to succeed. Recently, the animated film Transformers One received some of the best reviews in the franchise’s history.
It currently holds an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has earned over $120 million at the box office. In total, all Transformers movies have brought in more than $5 billion worldwide. The toy line also continues to generate significant revenue each year, proving that Transformers remains a beloved brand.
The future of Transformers looks exciting. The 2023 live-action film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduced new possibilities by hinting at a shared universe with G.I. Joe. This movie was planned as the first entry in a trilogy.
Fans have been waiting for a crossover between the two franchises, and the wait is almost over. In an interview with Collider, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura confirmed that the next Transformers movie will be the highly anticipated crossover.
Fans can now experience the stop-motion short film We Are Not Alone, and look forward to new Transformers adventures in the coming years.
