Gilmore Girls premiered on October 5th, 2000, on The WB network. It was a flagship series for The WB as it became a very popular show. The comedy-drama series was created by Amy Sherman Palladino. The series received critical acclaim for its witty dialogue, cross-generational storyline, and effective mix of humor and drama. The show is known for its humor and heartfelt vibe, which leaves the viewers with a wholesome feeling after watching it. The show has been cited as one of the 100 greatest television shows of all time by TV and Time magazine. As the show progressed further with its story, we got close to the characters.
The show ended on May 15th, 2007, on The CW network. In 2016 the main cast and the creator of the show returned for a four-part mini-series revival called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. This mini-series streamed on Netflix and was later aired on The CW network.

10) The Mini-Series was filmed in just under 4 months.
The mini received both positive and negative reactions from fans. But splitting the 4 episodes up into the 4 seasons is brilliant. It gives viewers a nostalgic feeling when they see Stars Hollow in its Winter glory for which it is known. In an interview, Scott Patterson said that they filmed different seasons on the same day. He Said, ” We were block shooting. We had three and a half months to shoot four one-and-a-half-hour movies. We had 600 pages to do in three and a half months, which is insane, and the only way to do it is block shoot it.”
9) The final four words were kept secret.
Gilmore Girls fans have known for years that the original series finale was going to have “the final four words” that Amy Sherman Palladino had written. When the revival was announced, fans knew that these words would finally be said. In an interview Kelly Bishop said that she was not certain about the famous final four words that the mother and daughter say in the last scene, She said, ” I finally asked, and I wasn’t even sure if I was getting a straight answer.” She said she didn’t have “any big strong reaction.”
8) There were more than just 1,000 yellow Daisies during Max’s proposal to Lorelai.
Early on in the series, one of Lorelai’s love interests, Max, proposed to her, rather romantically, by sending her 1,000 yellow Daisies. However, during an interview, Amy Sherman Palladino revealed that because the set was so large, there were way more than 1,000 Daisies in the room. She said, ” A thousand yellow Daisies sounds like a lot, but when you put a thousand yellow Daisies in a big room, like our set, it’s more like a table arrangement.” She further went on, ” Three or four times we had to send people back to get more yellow Daisies. I think we wiped out Yellow Daisies on the West Coast.” By the end of the scene, they had ” thousands and thousands and thousands of flowers.”
7) Gilmore Girls was Alexis Bledel’s first major acting gig.
Alexis Bledel has gone on to a big career in movies and on TV, but Gilmore Girls was her first major acting gig. She only had one uncredited film role before being cast as Rory. Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai, said that she had to sometimes physically move her to her mark she was that much of a newbie. She said, ” There’s a thing, especially on that show, where the camera moves. It’s very complicated, you have to be talking, everything has to be exactly right.
Then you have to land at a certain mark. She’d never hit a mark before. And so I would put my arm around her and often be arm in arm with her.” She further said, ” So we’re hanging onto each other. I’m literally pulling her to and fro. But she learned very quickly and is obviously a natural, so it’s just one of those things that happened to work.”

6) They never finish their food on the show.
Lorelai and Rory are portrayed as foodies on the show. They order pizza, Chinese food, a variety of chips and snacks, and dessert, all for a single movie night. Rory also tells her first boyfriend Dean that she eats a lot on their first date. Although they say they have large appetites’, in most of the scenes, there are large amounts of food leftover. Sometimes they go to Luke’s café saying that they are super hungry but then leave an entire un-eaten burger on the table.
5) Lorelai never researches.
Lorelai is renowned for her witty banter. The show is known for its speedy dialogue, so Lorelai makes us laugh with her witty comments, which she delivers at lightning speed. Lorelai’s brand of comedy includes pop culture references, which she delivers in abundance, so fast that it’s hard to keep up with her. This makes us wonder how she gets all this information, which we are never told. She works and spends time with Rory and her friends most of the time, or she is involved in some drama. We never see her get all this information.
4) The show was inspired by a trip Amy Sherman Palladino was on.
On her trip, she went through a small town of Washington, Connecticut, where she stayed at an inn. She said, “We’re driving by, and people are slowing down, saying, excuse me, where is the pumpkin patch? And everything is green, and people are out, and they’re talking. And we went to a diner, and everyone knew each other, and someone got up, and they walked behind the counter, and they got their own coffee because the waitress was busy.” Within 24 hours, she had worked out the show and had written some of the dialogues for the Pilot.
3) Alex Borstein was originally cast as Sookie.
She later had to turn down the role due to her work on MadTV. She did have a few cameos on the show as the harpist, Drella. She is also married to Jackson Douglas, who played the Jackson that dated Sookie on the show.
2) Liza Weil, who played Paris, originally auditioned for the part of Rory.
Amy Sherman Palladino told her that if the show got picked up, she had an idea for a part that she wanted to write specifically for her. She initially struggled with the part, saying that it “was scary to be a judgmental mean girl.”

Most Gilmore Girls fans are #TeamJess, but the character, played by Milo Ventimiglia, was actually written into the script to put off a Luke and Lorelai relationship a little longer. Amy Sherman Palladino said that she looked for ” obstacles that are real to put in their way.”
