What if you win a lottery and think everything is going to be great now but end up losing it all a few years down the line and have to make the difficulty between yourself and your child? Directed by Michael Morris, the film follows Leslie, an alcoholic who recently won a lottery worth $190,000 only to waste it on alcohol and drugs.
Written by Ryan Binaco, the film was loved by the audience for its realistic portrayal of the scenes with drug and alcohol addiction. Risenborough’s portrayal of an alcoholic, manipulative bitch was commendable. The viewers felt every character of the film lived in the role, especially, Risenborough, as she didn’t hold back from the raw portrayal of an addict.
Produced by Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady, the film stars Andrea Risenborough playing the role of Leslie, the protagonist and the addict mother of James Allison Janney playing the role of Nancy, Marc Maron playing the role of Sweeney, Andrea Royo playing the role of Royal, Owen Teague playing the role of James, Leslie’s estranged son, Stephen Root playing the role of Dutvh, James Landry playing the role of Pete in the lead cast.
The supporting cast includes Catfish Jean playing the role of Darren, Scott Subiono playing the role of Rancher Glen, Blake Robbins playing the role of The Handyman, and Matt Lauria playing the role of Handsome Outlaw. Leslie earned Riseborough an Academy Awards nomination for the Best Actress category.
Larkin Seiple did the cinematography of the film, which is distributed by Momentum Pictures. Leslie was first released in theatres for the public on October 12, 2022, and had a runtime of 119 minutes. Even though To Leslie didn’t do well with the public and had a box office collection of $31,543 with $1 M in investment, it is worth a watch.

To Leslie Premise
The film begins with Leslie, a troubled manipulative alcoholic mother of James living in West Texas, who has recently won $190,000 in a local lottery. Leslie ends up spending her fortune on her drug and alcohol addiction.
Six years after the events, Leslie wins the lottery. She is left with nothing and now stays at different motels and on the streets. Leslie is kicked out of the recent motel she was staying in after she failed to make payments. Leslie reunites with James, her 19-year-old son, and he allows her to live with him on the condition she doesn’t drink while at his place.
Leslie ends up stealing from Darren, James’ roommate, and he discovers a bottle of liquor under Leslie’s bed. James ends up calling Leslie’s mother and Nancy for help. Nancy reluctantly allows Leslie to crash with her and Dutch, Nancy’s boyfriend. Nancy ends up locking Leslie out of the house in the middle of the night after she is spotted with Pete visiting a bar.
Leslie ends up sleeping outside of a motel, where she is discovered by Sweeney, who asks her to leave. Leslie flees from the area, leaving her suitcase behind. Pete meets her outside of a convenience store, and he buys her food, but she flees again after Pete makes a sexual advance toward her. Leslie comes back to the motel for her suitcase, but Sweeney offers her a job for a small wage and boarding after he mistook Lealie for someone else.
Leslie is unpunctual in her job and continues to spend her wages on alcohol. Sweeney decides to fire Leslie after she drunkenly visits the house she raised James in. Sweeney decides against firing Leslie after she promises to change her ways. Leslie tries to remain sober as she suffers from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Leslie is confronted by Nancy at a fair in front of Sweeney for abandoning James as a child. After a while, Leslie quits her job at the motel and leaves after leaving a message for James telling him she loves her. Sweeney continues to search for Leslie and gets in a tussle with Pete after he and Nancy insults Leslie.
After ten months after the events of Leslie living in an abandoned ice cream shop, she has managed to remain sober. The film ends with Nancy apologizing to Leslie and her reuniting with James as the two embrace.

To Leslie got filmed with Los Angeles as the prime location for the filming of the movie, and it was filmed within 19 days during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Los Angeles
A major city located in the southern side of California was used as the prime location for the filming of the drama film. Carl’s Motel, located in Rosemount, California, was used as the filming location for Sweeney’s motel scenes.
The scene with Leslie working as the cleaning lady for Sweeney’s motel got filmed at this location. Los Angeles was the prime location, and Carl’s motel sign was shown in several parts of the film. The fight between Sweeney and Pete is also filmed at this location.
