All about The Vow:
The Vow examines the NXIVM self-improvement group – whose leader, Keith Raniere, was found guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, among other charges. The emotional damage of recent events is shown, as well as Smallville actress Allison Mack’s part in attracting new individuals.
The docuseries prominently features former NXIVM members Sarah Edmondson, Mark Vicente, Bonnie Piesse, Anthony “Nippy” Ames, Barbara Bouchey, Susan Dones, and Toni Natalie. Also appearing in the series is journalists Frank Parlato who helped start initial reporting on the criminal activity of NXIVM) and New York Times reporter Barry Meier.
Catherine Oxenberg appears in the series as she attempts to rescue her daughter India Oxenberg (a story also at the center of another docuseries called Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult). It aired on October 17, 2022. Here, After Keith Raniere’s arrest, Moira Penza and Marc Agnifilo began preparing for his trial. In this episode, DOS members Nicki Clyne and Michele Hatchette offer their perspectives on NXIVM. Nancy Salzman, who is currently under house arrest, also sits down for an interview. This episode explores the legal and psychological fallout of the event. Some individuals still believe in their leader, while others have lost faith.
We see a lot of people pleading guilty. Eventually, it all led to Nancy Salzman– the woman who helped Raniere establish NXIVM. We all want to know if she was a villain or just another victim. The episode culminates with her getting ready to give an interview, which will presumably be shown in the next episode.
