The second season of The Tourist has just been released, but as all the episodes are out on BBC iPlayer, fans have already seen all the episodes, uncovering all the latest mysteries around Elliot Stanley.
In season 2, we saw Hele and Elliot traveling to Ireland to explore Elliot’s amnesiac past. But after they were tied in the family feud, it was indicated that there was so much more about him than it was shown.
Was the new season any better than season 1? How did things happen for the two of them in season 2?
In this article, we’re going to take a look at the same and here is your spoiler warning. If you’ve not seen the show yet, you can explore other articles.
New revelations about Elliot
In this season, we saw important things about Jamie’s character. The main revelation was that Elliott Stanley was not Elliot Stanley.
He was the son of Niamh, Eugene Cassidy, a matriarch of the Cassidy family who has been in an ongoing long feud with the McDonnell family. He also had a talent for ballet.
Eugene had an affair with Claire, Donal McDonnell’s wife, when he was young. They even had a son named Fergal. Donal tried to kill Eugene, but instead, he killed his brother.
He felt guilty about the death, and this was the reason behind his departure from Ireland. He left by keeping his ancestry secret.
Who was the real Elliot?
Elliot was a diver, and he was hired by Frank to locate the plane on which his father had been. His father called him and told him that he had something important to share, but unfortunately, he passed away on the plane before he could reveal the secret.
Frank hoped to find what was inside, so he hired Elliot. He became acquainted with Niamh Cassidy and traveled with her. She tied him to the plane and punctured his breathing machine, which killed him, indicating that there would be no revelation of the found secret.
Ethan, Ruairi, and Helen found this out when they met Deirdre, Elliot’s widow. This was a hint to tell the audience that Elliot was Eugene’s father. It also explains the resemblance between Elliot and Eugene and why they took his name.
How did the long-lasting feud die?
The feud got big. Donal was killed by Niamh, but everyone thought it was Eugene’s doing. The family met at Cassidy’s bar for an all-out war. Helen got there just in time, and she had the files that Frank’s father wanted to show. Niamh buried them years ago near the coast so that no one could find them.
Turns out it was love letters between Niamh’s mother and Frank’s father. They had an affair, but because of the family feud, they kept it a secret, so in reality, it means that Niamh and Frank were brother and sister.
Niamh tried to bury the secret because of the family’s past and ongoing feud. Frank was open to forgetting about everything and moving on as a joined family, but Niamh moved out of the pub and was unable to do so. It is unclear where the two families went.
What about Helen and Eugene?
Eugene and Helen put the past actions and mystery behind them and moved to Amsterdam together. But Eugene was arrested for Donal’s murder after a newspaper article started to circulate locally. Someone else had seen this and tracked down Eugene and sent him the file.
But it was not ready by Helen or Eugene, who claimed that they did not care about the past. Eugene burned it, and the duo went to test their post-amnesia dancing skills.
They did not see what was there in those files, but we got a small glimpse when the file was burning. It looks like Eugene was a special agent in 2005. How will this turn out for the show is yet to be seen in the show?
