We are still staring at the wall, our mouths open wide because we have no words, literally no words to say in honor of this amazing, truly brilliant, and mind-blowing trilogy. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a genius, and she wrote these books in such a brilliant way that it is really un-put-down-able, gets-you-hooked-till-you-forget-about-your-own-life, and makes you want to be a detective or something. The Final Gambit, which is the final installation in this trilogy, was released a few days ago, and we obviously read it as soon as it was available.
Since The Inheritance Games trilogy was now completed with this book, we finally got our chance to read it. And we are so glad we waited for it to be completed because we really wouldn’t have survived one whole year waiting and speculating what the third and the final book was going to be about.

The Inheritance Games: The Book That Began The Riddle
The Inheritance Games begins with Avery Grambs, a normal girl with normal problems. She just wants to graduate high school with a scholarship so she can afford college. Her mother died, and her absent and good-for-nothing father doesn’t care about her. So she lives with her ‘sister’, with whom she shares the same father. When Avery is called into the principal’s office, she doesn’t expect a suit-clad boy to inform her that she is needed for the reading of a will.
But that’s just the beginning. Soon, she learns that the dead billionaire Tobias Hawthorne left her with his entire fortune. Beyond shocked, she questions why a stranger would do that. She is just a teenager, a girl who doesn’t even know him, so why did he do that? Oh, and also, now she has to live in the super huge and beautiful Hawthorne House, occupied by the family the old man just disinherited and his four grandsons: Nash, Xander, Grayson, and Jameson.
Grayson is wary of Avery, but Jameson thinks she is a part of the puzzle. As they begin to ask questions, they find out that the old man has left them all a puzzle to solve. By the end of the first book, it has been established that Avery doesn’t share any DNA with the family, so she is definitely not a lost family member. That might have been an appropriate answer as to why she was chosen, but there are bigger questions now.
The Hawthorne Legacy & The Final Gambit
In The Hawthorne Legacy, Avery picks up the pieces to find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions. But what she finds hints at a bigger mystery as to why she has been brought here. As she digs deeper to solve the puzzle the old man left, what she finds shakes her to the core, hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she has ever imagined.
While threats are lurking everywhere and adversaries emerge to remove her from the picture, Avery is curious to solve the mystery, even if it means risking everything. The Final Gambit follows Avery and the Hawthorne brothers, who are drawn into one last puzzle when an unexpected visitor comes knocking at their door. Riddles upon riddles, secrets upon secrets, this is Avery’s last chance to solve the questions that won’t let her rest peacefully.
Our Review On The Inheritance Games Trilogy
We completed these books within three days as they were fast-paced, which made them easy to read quickly. The ending of each book was perfect, but the ending of the last book was beyond our imagination. It was a realistic and practical ending for a teenager. There were a few things in The Final Gambit that was really special, like Tobias Hawthorne’s last message. The message was so emotional; it felt like a final goodbye, like a conclusion that made us sad.
Grayson finding peace with his past and Jameson trying to be the better man was the most vulnerable we ever got to see the boys. Avery became a better, stronger version of herself. With that said, the overall plot of the trilogy was so good that you could believe it as the mystery unfolded.
As we followed these teenagers trying to solve the riddle, we couldn’t help but simply admire them for their sharp minds and determination. To conclude, we would suggest that if you like YA or mystery books, then this should be on your list. And if you’re looking for a YA mystery book but don’t know where to start, then this trilogy might a good option for you.
