In the next episode of The Great Canadian Baking Show, Canada’s favorite baking show, the eight gifted amateur chefs will face a sweet little task. This reality baking series debuted on CBC in November 2017.
The baking show features ten different amateur chefs from around Canada in each season. They will have to finish a variety of baking tasks each week once the tournament starts, until there is only one competitor left.
GCBS splits each show into three rounds: the Signature round, the Technical Challenge round, and the Showstopper round, taking inspiration from its British counterpart. The worst performer will be heartbreakingly sent back home, while the best performer will be proclaimed a star baker.
The Great Canadian Baking Show’s judges have rotated frequently over the years; for season 7, Bruno Feldeisen, Kyla Kennaley, Alan Shane Lewis, and Ann Pornel are the current judges.
Recap
Eagerly anticipated Bread Week, in which participants had to knead the finest bread they had ever made. The nine chefs competed in a cornbread cook-off in the signature phase, then they had to prepare a royal dish for the technical round. Making the ideal buns was the easiest but also the most difficult dish in the Showstopper round.
The nine chefs are welcomed to the kitchen at the start of the show and given an overview of Bread Week. In addition to crafting a cornbread loaf, the competitors had to present it in their own unique way and pair it with a handmade sauce that complemented the cornbread’s flavor flawlessly.
After the cornbread contest is over, Kyla and Bruno sample Candice’s Chicken Dinner Cornbread, which has a jalapeño glaze that gives it a prismatic appearance. The Mediterranean Cornbread from Rainier came next, and while it was tasty, it could have used a little more cooking.
The GCBS competitors had to prepare a distinctive Mexican dessert called Rosca de Reyes for the technical challenge. It was difficult for the chefs to create a visually appealing dish because not many of them were familiar with this Mexican dish.
The judges were searching for something that was golden brown in color as well as having an orange taste. Since Andrew’s cake isn’t done, he comes in last. The last task for the nine chefs is the Festival of Buns.
This required creating a visually appealing bun tower with a total of 24 buns and two varieties of fillings. Though the GCBS cooks come up with inventive bun towers, flavor is ultimately what counts.
Following the completion of all three Bread Week rounds, Camila Garcia Hernandez was named the Star Baker. The competitor that was eliminated last week was Sydney Hayden.
As they begin Cookie Week, eight bakers hope that bite-sized sweets will be their thing. With three bakes honoring nature’s abundance, the seven bakers who are still standing face the first Harvest Week.
With the return of Old School Week, everything is going bonkers in the tent as the six bakers dive headfirst into nostalgic baked goods. For the inaugural Spice Week, five bakers tantalize the senses with three savory and aromatic bakes.
