There is not one post-credits scene in Morbius but two. Both of these scenes include Michael Keeton’s Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture. The first post-credits scene starts with a shot of Manhattan under and night sky that develops the same purple rift that we saw at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. We then move to a shot of a jail cell where none other than the Vulture materializes with a flash of bright light. As Toomes materializes in this universe from the MCU one where his home is, he takes a brief moment to register what has just happened. As he touches himself in disbelief, confirming he’s still intact and safe, Toomes jokes, “hope the food’s better in this joint.”
Meanwhile, the New York City that must be contending with the sky-rift learns about Adrian Toomes via the news. On the Spectrum 1 news channel, the news anchor talks about the inexplicable incident in the jail, reading, “A bizarre story developing at the Manhattan Detention Centre when a man identifying himself as Adrian Toomes simply appeared in an otherwise empty cell. A hearing has been set that could likely lead to his immediate release.” Meanwhile, we see the police escorting Toomes out of the detention center. And as we learn from the news, he is shortly released after hearing since we see him meet Morbius in the next post-credits scene. However, before we delve into that, let’s talk about the confounding implications that this one has.
The First Confusing Morbius Post-Credits Scene Explained
The transportation of Vulture from the MCU to the Sony Spiderverse doesn’t make much sense. His arrival in Sony’s MCU-adjacent universe means that Doctor Strange’s spell didn’t work. After the reality-altering spell by the sorcerer supreme in Spider-Man: No Way Home, all the Spider-Man villains from other universes were transported back to their respective realities. The same happened with Eddie Brock/Venom when at the end of NWH, they went back to their original universe. However, a small gooey piece of the symbiote remained in the MCU universe. Additionally, the original universe that Eddie and Venom hail from is, as we now know, the same one where Morbius exists. But what’s the puzzling part about this whole Spider-Man villain universal exchange is how and why did the Vulture hop universes?
Director Daniel Espinosa’s Explanation For Vulture’s Transportation
The Doctor Strange spell only transported the villains who breached into the MCU universe. However, Adrian Toomes is originally from the MCU and not from any other universe. Even if we accept his transportation to the Morbius-Venom universe, there’s little reason why he would stay in the Sony universe after Strange lifted the spell. However, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa explained this inexplicable event as a natural progression and consequence of what happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The director said that the ending of NWH and Venom 2 establishes that it’s possible for characters to transfer from one universe to another. He went on to add that Venom and Vulture faced this transfer when Strange cast the spell. According to him, that’s the reason why Venom and Vulture can hop back and forth between MCU and the Venom Universe. This implies that the Vulture will eventually transport back to the MCU.
The Second Confusing Morbius Post-Credits Scene
The second post-credits scene in Morbius sees the titular character drive his sports car to a remote location. Meanwhile, Morbius is also checking his watch for the time limit exhaustion, after which he loses his powers. It seems that he’s going to meet someone, and this confrontation may be a bit risky. He eventually stops the car, gets out of it, and looks at the distant cityscape. That’s when something loud and fast seems to come closer and closer. We soon realize that it’s none other than Vulture, who, for some unexplainable reason, has a new Vulture suit.
He meets Morbius, who is cautious and apprehensive at first. Vulture says to Morbius, “Thanks for meeting me Doc. I’ve been reading about you.” Morbius replies, “I’m listening”. Toomes continues, “I’m not sure how I got here. Has to do with Spider-Man, I think. I’m still figuring this place out, but I think a bunch of guys like us should team up. Do some good.” It seems Morbius likes the idea since he replies to Vulture’s pitch with “Intriguing”. This team-up will most likely end up with the Sinister Six, a movie that Sony is slowly building towards.
How Did Vulture Get A New Suit?
However, the bigger question right now is just how did Toomes get his hands on the new suit? Since his suit from MCU didn’t travel with him to the Venom universe, it must mean he either built it from scratch or acquired it from someone else. It’s interesting to notice that this suit is a bit different than the one in the MCU. This means, and as Espinosa explains as well, that Toomes got his hands on a new Vulture suit here. Espinosa explains this confounding piece of revelation as “he is a resourceful guy”. Despite that explanation, it’s still quite a leap that requires us to suspend our disbelief a lot.
