The scary Homelander is at the center of The Boys Season 3’s struggle. Everyone wants to get rid of him but is unable to do so due to his invincibility. Butcher hears stories about an extreme weapon that can kill his rival as Season 3 begins, and his entire effort until The Boys Season 3 Episode 5 is to get that weapon. Butcher and The Boys headed to Russia in search of a super-weapon but instead released another killer supe, Soldier Boy, in episode 4. Soldier Boy makes his way to America in Episode 5, but the issue remains: is there any weapon whatsoever, or was it all a deception?
In Episode 5 titled “The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies,” Soldier Boy is on the rampage in Russia, while Homelander is causing chaos in the United States, assassinating Supersonic in cold blood. Hughie has got a taste of Compound V24, much to the displeasure of MM, and Kimiko hasn’t recovered from her run-in with Soldier Boy.
The Boys Season 3 Episode 5 Recap
After removing Stan Edgar, Homelander used his power to compel Ashley Barrett to take Edgar’s place. But, even though the big guy believed he possessed all of the world’s physical abilities, he had no idea how to operate a firm, and his latent fears quickly surfaced. When Homelander acquired leadership of Vought, he made several significant managerial changes, including appointing The Deep as the chief of Crime Analytics. He was attempting to appoint crucial jobs to people he knew would not betray him. However, Homelander realized that there were two persons on the squad who may backstab him, so he determined to deal with them right away.
Starlight was the first, conspiring against Homelander and forming her own secret team to attack him. In Episode 4, A-Train tipped off Starlight and notified Homelander about her ruse, which resulted in Supersonic’s death. After murdering Supersonic, Homelander informed Starlight that if she didn’t stop conspiring against him, his next victim would be Hughie. A-train may have also told Homelander regarding Queen Maeve, who was the one who started the whole thing to get rid of Homelander. Soldier Boy and stories of the ultimate weapon were something she had informed Butcher about. She was the one who gave Butcher Compound V24, which gave him his temporary superpowers.
Maeve not only got really drunk with Butcher in The Boys Season 3 Episode 5, but she also stayed the night beside him. When Homelander learned of Maeve’s strong ties to his arch-enemy, he decided to deal with the betrayal in his own way. He gave Black Noir orders to capture Maeve and put her in prison in the Vought Tower. The issue is that everyone is so terrified of Homelander that no one will dare to speak out against him or attempt to assist Maeve. Even when Starlight inquired about Maeve’s whereabouts, Ashley refused to disclose any information. In the forthcoming episodes of The Boys season 3, Maeve’s destiny will be explored in greater detail.
Kimiko Is Happy About Losing Her Powers
Despite the fact that Kimiko survived Soldier Boy’s attack, she lost her abilities for some reason. But she seemed unconcerned about it. Instead, she was overjoyed to discover that she had returned to her former state as a normal human being. She eventually regained her voice. Kimiko and Frenchie imagine a blissful love life together in a musical duet, but it’s all a dream. In Russia, Frenchie and his gang of brothers caused a disturbance, and Little Nina blamed Frenchie for everything in order to force him to serve as a hired gun for him.
Frenchie didn’t want to kill innocent people any longer, but Butcher had left him with little choice because he owed Nina money after the Russian trip. For the time being, Frenchie decided to avoid Nina’s calls and threats, but when all in his life seemed to be falling into place, Nina abducted him. Kimiko was expecting Frenchie to return, but he never did. With The Boys all preoccupied with supe-affairs, Kimiko appears to be more likely to try to defend Frenchie from Nina, which could result in disaster.

Soldier Boy In Action
Soldier Boy, who was tortured for years by the Russians for research purposes, did not fight them and instead traveled to America in search of a traitor who had sold him. He spotted signs for Homelander everywhere as soon as he arrived at the nation, and judging by his expression, he didn’t enjoy it. Soldier Boy didn’t enjoy Queen Maeve’s Pride Advertisement, the third advertisement that drew his attention. America’s Hero was mentally locked in the 1970s.
Soldier Boy was strolling down the street when he noticed a Russian jingle on the radio, which reminded him of the torture the Russian scientist had inflicted on him. He suddenly lost control and unleashed another energy blast, which not only destroyed an entire skyscraper in midtown Manhattan but also slaughtered 19 people. As soon as Marvin saw the heartbreaking news, he recalled his own childhood trauma, in which Soldier Boy had murdered his family, and he swore to stop him right now.
Hughie, Butcher, and Marvin contacted The Legend, Vought’s previous VP of Hero Management, prior to when Madelyn Stillwell and Stan Edgar took over. The Legend finally explained to The Boys that Soldier Boy had dropped by him to get his uniform and his ex-girlfriend’s location because he had some unresolved issues with her. As a result, without losing any time, Butcher and Hughie injected V24 to trap Soldier Boy, while Marvin chose to paralyze him with halothane gas, as he had seen in the Russian recordings when halothane was used to calm Soldier Boy.
Soldier Boy Is The Weapon Against Homelander
Butcher has never been seen as a hero, and he does not regard himself as one. At best, he’s a broken protagonist on a path of revenge that he’s blindly following. He is hell-bent on assassinating Homelander at all prices, even if it means negotiating a deal with the enemy. And it’s an arrangement that he offers to Soldier Boy. Butcher and Hughie had another diabolical plan in mind while Marvin was seeking for the Soldier Boy to catch or kill him so he wouldn’t harm any more innocent civilians.
When the lads arrived at Crimson Countess’ trailer, she confessed to them that she was the one who betrayed Soldier Boy and exposed his weakness to the Russians, allowing them to kidnap him and imprison him in some foreign location. But why is that? No one in The Boys universe, especially these indestructible poster boys, Homelander and Soldier Boy, is a complete saint or a superhero in the purest sense. Soldier Boy, like Homelander, has weaknesses, or a dark side, to be precise. Butcher had already heard Gunpowder confess to Butcher that Soldier Boy had abused him.
Crimson Countess decided to confront Soldier Boy with the truth in The Boys Season 3 Episode 5, telling him that the whole Payback team disliked him. Like Gunpowder, they undoubtedly all had their reasons. Soldier Boy and Homelander have a lot in common, as this conversation illustrates. In the same episode, Maeve, Homelander’s first love inclination, tells him how she never loved him and has hated him since the beginning of time. Although the Crimson Countess and Maeve have different reasons for despising the squad’s leader, their entire encounter with their past love interest demonstrates similar hate for these selfish guys. Soldier Boy used an energy blast to murder Crimson Countess, just like Homelander did with Maeve.
Soldier Boy Teams Up With The Boys
However, Butcher and Hughie did not attempt to protect the Crimson Countess. It was never their intention. They want Soldier Boy’s hatred so that they can discuss business with him. Butcher knew Marvin wouldn’t approve of such a deal, so he drugged him to get him to accept. Butcher ultimately proposed his proposal for a team-up after Soldier Boy had taken his vengeance, and Soldier Boy accepted the proposal. Standing there, Starlight couldn’t grasp why Butcher teamed up with a murderer to assassinate another monster, but Butcher is who he is. What really upsets her is that Hughie, too, was obsessed with revenge and assisted Butcher in his evil scheme.
Finally, Hughie discloses that Soldier Boy is their strongest weapon against Homelander and Victoria and that he will most likely assist the boys in eliminating their super-enemies. Soldier Boy has so far attacked two supes, one of who has lost her power and the other of whom has burned to death, and now it is time to take on the strong competition, Homelander. Butcher and his squad may not be able to handle Homelander, but they are likely to believe that, like the Russians, they will be able to paralyze Soldier Boy with halothane. They haven’t tried it yet, and if Butcher plans to use that against Soldier Boy when he’s dealt with Homelander, his untested strategy could backfire as well.
