Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) has found new riders for her dragons. However, the Greens still have some surprises. In the Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, they introduce two new dragons, including one that stands out.
Tessarion, a small, cobalt-blue dragon, flies over the Hightower army as it moves towards King’s Landing. Tessarion belongs to Prince Daeron Targaryen, who has not appeared in the series yet. She is special for several reasons, and fans have eagerly awaited her appearance, even if it was just for a short time.
Tessarion’s Special Traits in the ‘Game of Thrones’ Franchise
Tessarion’s appearance in the season finale is brief, similar to what was shown in the episode promo. She appears as a sign of the challenges ahead for the war, with the Hightower army heading towards King’s Landing.
Even though she is small now, Tessarion is unique not only in House of the Dragon but across the entire Game of Thrones series. She is still young, which explains her smaller size, but she has traits that make her stand out.
The Blacks have added three dragons to their side: Hugh Hammer’s (Kieran Bew) Vermithor, Ulf the White’s (Tom Bennett) Silverwing, and Addam of Hull’s (Clinton Liberty) Seasmoke.
Yet, the Greens seem to have the most beautiful dragons in the war, with Tessarion being possibly the most beautiful, compared only to Helaena’s (Phia Saban) Dreamfyre. Tessarion’s scales are cobalt-blue, and her spikes and wings are copper-colored, earning her the nickname “the Blue Queen.”
Though small now, she will eventually grow to a size three times that of Vermithor, which will make her a formidable dragon.
Dragonfire is known to be stronger and hotter than regular fire, with some explosive qualities. All dragons so far have this type of fire, but Tessarion is unique in that she breathes blue fire. Her flames are as beautiful as her scales and as powerful as any regular dragonfire.
In Game of Thrones, Viserion, resurrected by the Night King (Vladimir Furdik), also breathes blue fire, but his blue fire shows he is zombified. Tessarion’s blue fire is natural.
Why Tessarion Hasn’t Appeared Until Now
Prince Daeron Targaryen, the fourth and youngest child of King Viserys (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), had little chance of becoming heir to the Iron Throne because there were others ahead of him. He was sent to Oldtown to be a squire and cupbearer for Lord Ormund Hightower.
In Fire & Blood, Daeron bonded with Tessarion when he was six, although he couldn’t ride her until she was older. Tessarion was taken with Daeron to Oldtown. In Episode 7, “The Red Sowing,” Tessarion starts flying, and Lord Jasper Wylde (Paul Kennedy) reports that Daeron and Tessarion have joined the Hightower army heading to King’s Landing.
Although there is no casting news for Season 3 yet, it is expected that Daeron and Tessarion will appear. Daeron is known to be a handsome and polite young man, and his dragon’s traits often reflect those of the rider. Tessarion is said to be fast and nimble, which could be an advantage in battle.
In Fire & Blood, Daeron and Tessarion perform acts of bravery before the main battles of the Dance of Dragons. When the Hightower army is ambushed by House Beesbury, Daeron arrives just in time on Tessarion, burning the enemy troops and earning the nickname “Daeron the Daring.”
After this, the way is clear to Tumbleton. However, if House of the Dragon follows Fire & Blood closely, Daeron and Tessarion may face challenges at Tumbleton, which is known for major battles involving many dragons. Fans hope to see Tessarion in all her blue-flamed glory.
