The Blood of Dawnwalker has received its first major post-launch update, with patch 1.1 bringing new gameplay features and more than 1,100 improvements and fixes to the dark fantasy action RPG. Developed by Rebel Wolves and published in partnership with Bandai Namco Entertainment, the update is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

One of the biggest additions is the Draught of Mind Rebirth, a new potion that allows players to reset their learned abilities and redistribute their skill points. The update also introduces animal petting, additional subtitle settings, and a revised Story difficulty option designed to make the adventure more accessible.

Beyond these headline features, update 1.1 addresses problems affecting combat, character movement, quests, user interface elements, audio, visuals, and game stability. Improvements to frame generation technology and camera behavior also aim to make exploration and battles smoother. Players can watch the official update trailer on YouTube and consult the official Steam patch notes for the complete list of changes.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 Adds Major Gameplay Features

The new Draught of Mind Rebirth gives players greater flexibility when developing protagonist Coen. Drinking the potion removes his learned Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism abilities, allowing players to spend their skill points on a different combination of powers. This is particularly useful for players who want to experiment with alternative builds without being locked into earlier choices.

The update also adds animal petting, offering a small but welcome interaction beyond combat and exploration. These additions expand the available options for players returning to the dark fantasy world.

New Story Difficulty and Subtitle Options

Update 1.1 revises the game’s difficulty settings by separating the previous Story option into two choices. Players can select Forgiving difficulty, which was previously called Story, or choose the new Story mode, which provides additional combat assistance.

Accessibility improvements include larger subtitle text and an option to display subtitles for all dialogue lines. These settings give players more control over how they follow conversations and experience the game’s narrative.

Combat, Camera, and Performance Improvements

Rebel Wolves has adjusted combat animations and camera movements to improve the feel of encounters. Targeting, locking onto enemies, and disengaging from fights have also been improved. The update further makes Shadowstep and Planeshift more responsive when targeting surfaces and attaching to them.

Frame generation technology has received an update, alongside dedicated settings. The patch also addresses performance drops, camera stuttering, and frame-rate issues in several locations and encounters. Controller users should benefit from fixes affecting map navigation, menu responsiveness, targeting, and interactions with objects.

Other quality-of-life changes include controller deadzone settings, a merchant buyback feature, and hiding equipped items while selling inventory. Players can now equip items in both day and night presets simultaneously, while upgrade costs have been rebalanced, particularly at higher levels. The developers have also reduced the health of boars and wolves on higher difficulties.

More Than 1,100 Fixes Address Quests and Bugs

A substantial portion of update 1.1 focuses on fixing problems across the campaign. The patch resolves numerous quest progression blockers, including situations where Coen could become stuck, characters failed to appear, objectives remained incomplete, or doors prevented players from advancing.

It also fixes combat issues involving bosses, enemy behavior, ability effects, and character animations. Several exploits and unusual interactions have been addressed, including infinite money from a beehive and instances where Coen could fall through the map, teleport unexpectedly, or reach areas outside the intended boundaries.

Additional fixes cover lighting, textures, sound effects, voice lines, localization, save handling, crashes, and infinite loading screens. The Japanese Steam version will also no longer censor blood and gore.

One known issue remains under investigation: the game may crash when Frame Generation is switched from off to on on systems using an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT.

Update 1.1 is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. With new skill customization, additional accessibility options, and extensive technical fixes, the patch represents a significant improvement to The Blood of Dawnwalker experience.

Players can review the complete changes in the official patch notes on Steam.
