Rebel Wolves, the studio behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, has reiterated its commitment to developing single-player role-playing games that offer complete experiences without in-game microtransactions. The Polish developer wants players to enjoy the content included with their purchase rather than encounter additional monetization systems during their adventures.

The studio shared details about its development philosophy, production process, and future plans during a media visit on October 20, 2026. According to Korean gaming publication Inven, the event brought Korean and Japanese media representatives to the developer’s facilities to learn more about the team behind its debut RPG.

The approach is central to Rebel Wolves’ stated focus on story-driven games. Instead of building its RPGs around in-game microtransactions, the studio aims to deliver a complete package when players purchase a title.

Rebel Wolves Wants Players to Receive Complete RPG Experiences

Rebel Wolves was founded in 2022 by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the former game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, alongside experienced developers from CD Projekt Red and other studios. The company initially began with around 20 people and has since expanded to approximately 166 employees.

During the presentation, a studio marketing representative explained the team’s approach to development, stating,

“We wanted to create an environment where we could focus entirely on the project itself without being driven by stock market pressure or tight deadlines.”

The developer’s preference for complete games extends to its commitment against in-game microtransactions. This approach aligns with its focus on single-player RPGs in which the story, exploration, and gameplay form a cohesive experience.

For The Blood of Dawnwalker, narrative choices play a central role. Players control Coen, a young man who lives as a human during the day and gains vampire abilities at night. His mission to rescue his kidnapped family unfolds across 30 days and nights, with decisions determining how the story progresses.

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s medieval environments support Rebel Wolves’ emphasis on immersive world-building and story-driven role-playing.

A marketing representative also explained the studio’s approach to quests, saying,

“Our game does not have side quests in the traditional sense. Every activity connects back to the core story.”

The representative added that the priority is allowing players to forge their own narrative.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Builds on Its Narrative-Driven Design

The game launched on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Bandai Namco Entertainment handling publishing and international marketing. According to the studio’s presentation reported by Inven, development cost approximately $40 million, and sales exceeded one million copies during launch weekend. The game also held approximately 87% positive user reviews on Steam at the time of the report.

The developers have also incorporated player feedback into the experience. Changes included options to adjust the combat camera distance and simplify combat controls, allowing the team to refine gameplay without significantly changing its original design.

Rebel Wolves Plans More Content and a Larger Saga

Rebel Wolves outlined several plans for the future of The Blood of Dawnwalker, including Photo Mode and New Game Plus. These additions would give players more ways to revisit Coen’s journey and explore the game’s world after completing an initial playthrough.

The developer is also working toward expanding the Dawnwalker universe with a sequel. The studio previously described the game as the first chapter in a larger saga, with future installments intended to explore different eras, locations, and stories.

For now, Rebel Wolves’ commitment to complete RPG experiences without in-game microtransactions remains a defining part of its development approach. With The Blood of Dawnwalker establishing the foundation for a larger series, the studio’s future projects will show how consistently it maintains that promise as the franchise grows.
