Capcom dropped the Street Fighter 6 release date with a trailer and a brand change. Firstly, amid the PlayStation State of Play June event, developer Capcom gave a preview of Street Fighter 6, the highly awaited title that was announced earlier this year with a really cool trailer showcasing all the playable characters. The Street Fighter franchise is one of the oldest and most well-known fighting game series. The first game in the series was released in 1987, and since then there have been numerous sequels and spin-offs.
After an initial fan backlash that criticized the previous logo, the new trailer now showcases another image and was better received by the public. Furthermore, with fiery elements, the new Street Fighter logo emphasizes the number six in its aesthetics. Now, let’s take a look at the rest of the details concerning the title.
Street Fighter 6 Roster Details
Firstly, the game will have 22 characters that will include the initial lineup from the second installment. Furthermore, these characters are: Zangief, Honda, Dhalsim, Ken, Guile, Ryu, Blanka, and Chun-Li. Also, it seems as though some old favorites are coming back like Akuma, Ed, Juri, Rashid, Dee Day and Cammy.
While the rest of the SF6 cast of characters is new, we have some familiar faces popping up in the trailer. There’s Jamie from Hong Kong and Luke from Street Fighter 5. Also, coming up in the game we have Marisa from Italy, she sports gladiator gear. Lily is from Mexico. JP is from Russia and wears a cape. A.K.I. is a Chinese gal with claws. Then there’s Kimberly from the USA. And lastly, we have Mimi from France.

Improved Gameplay
Capcom wants to make Street Fighter 6 as inclusive to newbies and veteran gamers as possible. To do it, they’re incorporating to this title a “Modern Control Type” button layout that lets users pull out the combos without pushing so many buttons. While seasoned gamers might find this extremely unattractive, others might like it. Because with this feature, their character will perform those flashy combos that everyone wants to pull off with just a few pressings of buttons.
If you look at the trailer, you will notice that apparently, the title will be incorporating some open-world elements to the title. And that’s a ground-breaking element in this franchise which is always characterized by picking your player and having you fight opponents in multiple instances as you go along. It appears that the open-world exploration trend landed here. As to the details of what it encompasses, Capcom has been tight-lipped about it. We will just have to wait and see. Remember that gamers are very demanding with cult classics. And Street Fighter is no exception. If they don’t like it, they will just pick up something else to play and trash the game in the reviews.
Why Is Street Fighter So Popular?
There are many reasons why the Street Fighter franchise is so popular. One reason is that the games are easy to pick up and play, with controls that are simple to learn but offer a lot of depth for competitive players. Another reason is the series’ focus on over-the-top characters and spectacular moves, which makes it one of the most visually impressive and stylish fighting game series around. Finally, the games have always been well supported by Capcom with regular updates and new content, keeping players engaged for years.
Street Fighter 6 Release Date
Street Fighter 6 will release sometime in 2023 for PC via Steam, on Xbox X|S series, on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Additionally, the game will feature real-time match commentary from Aru and Vicious, while it doesn’t enhance the gaming experience —controller-wise— it provides a little help to newbies when they get their butts kicked during those intense matches they have to repeat over and over.
