Stranger Things Season 4 is finally coming on May 27th this year! The most awaited Sci-Fi horror series in the world is all set to take us back into the world of Upside-Down. This season was a long-awaited one since it was being postponed for 2 years. Fans have been eagerly waiting for it to arrive and finally, it’s coming! The official release dates are out and Stranger Things 4 will be back on Netflix this summer.
The creators of the show released a beautiful handwritten note talking about Season 4. And in it, they revealed that Season 4 will be released in two parts. As the note said, “Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in 2 volumes”. So, the season four volume 1 release will be followed by volume 2 or Season 5 on July 1st, 2022.
The Duffer Brothers also talk about Stranger Things Season 4 being the biggest season ever. And with two years of anticipation, the stakes are already pretty high. But the brothers hype it even more in their statement. They have promised many more new stories, adventures, and ‘unexpected heros’. But the core of the show will always be about those five friends.
Everything That Happened on Stranger Things So Far
Stranger Things is an 80s-themed Si-Fi horror series that revolves around the lives of four kids in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. Mike, Dustin, Lucus, and Will are the science nerds and low-key kids of the school who love to experiment. But their lives change when Eleven enters the scene. Suddenly, their lives are not about school, Arcade games, and bike rides but Demogorgons from a parallel universe.
In the three seasons of the series, we have seen many villains humans, and monsters. And we have seen so many characters die. The first series introduced the intriguing world of Upside-Down, and the fans were invested. The captivating enigma of Eleven with a shabby appearance is what captured the audience’s attention. The Upside-Down is a mirror image of Hawkins but it’s much darker and inhabitable. Instead of humans, the residents of this city are monsters such as the Demogorgon.
The first season of Stranger Things is all about fighting the Demogorgon. El and the boys team up to destroy the monster and save Will. Also, Will’s mother Joyce teams up with inspector Hopper to do anything she can to save him. A destructive but victorious season that nearly kills El but saves Will.
Its followed by season 2 which introduces a new monster called mind flayer. And as you can guess it manipulates one’s mind and attaches itself to them. And again in this season, Will is the victim, who is exorcised in order to be saved. The ending was dubious about Mind Flayer’s fate. And the following season we know that it’s still alive and has possessed Billy. Also, a group of Russian scientists wants to open the Upside-Down gate that El closed risking her life. The series concludes with the gate being destroyed and Mr. Hopper along with it.
What to Expect in Stranger Things Season 4?
Season 3 ended on a high with Jim Hopper being dead and Eleven losing her powers. Fans are curious to know what will happen next. There was speculation that David Harbour will be back as Hopper in season 4. And the official trailer released by Netflix proved that speculation correct. We don’t know how his return will play into the story yet. But the trailer suggests that he working for the Russians, so that storyline will continue in season 4. However, some fan theories suggest that Hopper is actually dead in real-time, and clips in the trailer are flashbacks. So we can’t say anything as of yet. Moreover, Harbour’s character according to his statement in an interview will get darker this season.
Eleven lost her powers at the end of Season 3. Some theories suggest that her ‘Papa’ Dr. Brenner, will help her get it back. Dr. Brenner is a cruel man who tortured Eleven with experiments. But Eleven learns how to use her power thanks to him and so she might go to him as a last resort. Also, a lot of evidence suggests Eleven’s connection to the Upside-Down. She might be responsible for creating that universe, which infers that she might die this season. It is a possibility that is sad but it will also give a great closure to that character.
Another important announcement by the creators was the arrival of Hellfire Club in season four. Hellfire Club is a Dungeons and Dragons official club at Hawkins High School. And theories suggest that this group is pivotal this season. Other than this, Season four will have Mike, El, Lucus, Dustin, Will, and Max navigating through High School.
The Cast of Stranger Things Season 4
We will have the core cast of Stranger Things in Season 4 as well. And that includes Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, and Fin Wolfhard as Mike. Along with them, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, and Caleb McLaughlin as Dustin, Max, and Lucus respectively. The dotting and fierce mother Joyce Buyers, played by Winona Ryder will also be seen this season. As well as the ‘second siblings’ which include Erica, Johnathan and Nancy played by Priah Ferguson, Charlie Heaton, and Natalia Dyer.
Fans loved the camaraderie of Steve and Robin in season 3, so the creators will not leave them without a proper closure. So you can expect to see Joe Keery and Maya Hawke as Steve and Robin in Season 4.
According to the trailer release, fans will certainly see David Harbour as Jim Hopper in the upcoming season as well. The Hawkins official D&D Hellfire Club will have three members including leader Eddie Munson. And Joseph Quinn is confirmed to be playing Eddie Munson this Season. A new character named Argyle will be introduced as Johnathan Buyer’s best friend. And apparently, he is one of the main characters for season 4, played by Eduardo Franco.
Moreover, the other recurring characters like journalist Murray Bauman played by Brett Gelman. And Karen Wheeler played by Cara Buono will also be important for season 4.
The Legacy and Possible Spin-Offs
Stranger Things has really changed the face of Si-Fi movies as well as Netflix. The creator of the show Matt and Ross Duffer have elevated the series with the incorporation of 80s elements. Apart from the nostalgic and Si-Fi elements, it has covered some real-life themes. Stranger Things is roughly based on the Montauk project of the United States, where questionable experiments were done on humans. Similar to those done on Eleven, who is treated like a lab rat by Dr. Brenner in the first season. It really sheds light on hope for humanity despite the many obstacles.
According to a statement by the creators, there seem to be possibilities for Spin-Offs in the Stranger Things universe. They said that there are many more exciting stories within this world that they want to tell. So there is definitely some hope there. However, they also confirmed that its the conclusion of Eleven’s story. So the possible spin-offs may not have El but it will still be as exciting. Well, the subtle hint that it could be ‘an unexpected hero’ makes the fans wonder who could it be. So Keep guessing!
