Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is now in its final stretch with only two episodes left in Season 1. Episode 7, titled “We’re Gonna Be in So Much Trouble,” lives up to its title by plunging viewers into chaos and drama.
This episode reconnects us with Jod (Jude Law) and his young companions as the series builds toward an exciting finale. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, who previously worked on The Mandalorian Season 3, this episode brings back familiar faces and ramps up the stakes for all the characters.
Trouble on At Attin
The episode begins on the planet At Attin, where the children’s parents are trying desperately to reach their lost kids. Fara (Kerry Condon), Wendle (Tunde Adebimpe), Garree (M.J. Kang), Maree (Cass Buggé), Nol, and Nooma work together to send a message through the planet’s barrier using a transmitter.
However, safety droids arrive to stop them. Most of the parents are stunned by the droids’ rays, but Fara manages to send a message into space before she is caught.
Meanwhile, the children are adjusting to life aboard the pirate ship Onyx Cinder. Despite their recent hardships, they are in good spirits and acting like children again. They play ball and joke around, enjoying a brief sense of normalcy.
However, Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) struggles emotionally and regrets starting the chain of events that led to their current situation. His friends — Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and KB (Kyriana Kratter) — assure him that they are glad he made the choice, even if things have been difficult.
By the end of the episode, their perspective changes as the stakes rise. The trouble they face makes it clear that their grand adventure is far more dangerous than they had imagined.
Jod: The Pirate We Cannot Trust
Jude Law brilliantly plays Jod Na Nawood, a morally ambiguous figure from the beginning of Skeleton Crew. While his charm and lightsaber skills intrigue him, it is clear that Jod is no hero.
The series has drawn comparisons between Jod and Captain Hook, portraying him as a cunning and self-serving pirate. This episode cements his role as an antagonist who will do anything for personal gain.
When the episode reconnects with Jod, he is aboard his old pirate ship, having steered them toward At Attin. Despite his earlier speeches, the planet looks nothing like what he promised. At Attin appears to be a dangerous, storm-covered world that could destroy any ship attempting to enter its atmosphere.
SM-33 (Nick Frost), Jod’s robotic ally, supports his claim that the storms are illusions, but the crew is skeptical. Brutus, one of the pirates, sends a volunteer to test Jod’s theory, but the volunteer does not return. Furious, Brutus threatens Jod with execution, but Jod is saved when the Onyx Cinder drops out of hyperspace.
Seeing an opportunity, Jod convinces Brutus that the Onyx Cinder holds the key to safely facing the storm. Brutus uses a tractor beam to pull the ship aboard. As they prepare to board the Onyx Cinder, Brutus threatens to kill Jod, but Jod smugly claims that the crew likes him too much to let that happen.
In a twist, the children use the ship’s claw-like arm to capture Brutus. However, Jod seizes the moment, kills Brutus using the Force, and takes control of the situation.
Jod’s true colors shine as he takes the children hostage and regains command of the Onyx Cinder. This marks a turning point in the episode, reminding viewers of his ruthless nature.
The Children’s Struggle
Despite being outmatched, the children refuse to give up. As Jod and his pirate crew plot their next move, the children overhear a transmission from their parents.
This message gives them renewed determination to escape. Fern takes the lead and suggests they plan an escape. Wim, impulsive as ever, charges into the cockpit shouting “Attack!” His bold move fails, and the children are quickly captured.
Jod asserts his dominance, but SM-33 challenges him. The droid reveals that Jod cannot legally captain two ships under pirate law, meaning the Onyx Cinder is free to be claimed. The children cleverly use this loophole, with Fern declaring the ship belongs to them. SM-33 surprisingly agrees with this interpretation, helping the children escape.
As the children fight their way through the ship, they manage to leave a trail of unconscious pirates behind. They break through At Attin’s barrier and experience a moment of wonder as they see their home planet for the first time. However, their escape does not go unnoticed, and the adventure takes another dark turn.
The Shocking End of SM-33
Jod, determined not to lose control, sneaks aboard the Onyx Cinder and confronts the children. Furious and impatient, he kills SM-33 by beheading the droid with his lightsaber. This brutal act underscores his growing anger and desperation. Jod then threatens the children, promising to kill their parents if they disobey him.
This tension builds as Jod, the children, and the ship land on At Attin. The safety droids mistake Jod for a Republic Emissary and escort him to a massive underground vault filled with Republic credits. The children’s parents, relieved to see their kids again, are unaware of the danger lurking nearby.
A Reunion with a Dark Twist
The episode delivers one final shock as the children reunites with their parents. Jod approaches, ignites his lightsaber, and the screen fades to black. This cliffhanger sets the stage for an intense and emotional finale. Actor Kyriana Kratter, who plays KB, has described the next episode with one ominous word: “death.”
