Sonic Frontiers has officially surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, giving SEGA another major milestone for its open-zone 3D Sonic adventure. The company announced the achievement on August 13, 2026, while also marking the occasion by expanding access to one of the game’s previously limited bonus items.
The sales figure comes after the game’s original release in November 2022 across Nintendo Switch and other platforms. Its recent Nintendo Switch 2 Definitive Edition, which launched in June 2026, may have contributed to renewed interest in the game, although SEGA has not disclosed how much of the five-million total came from the new version.
To celebrate the milestone, SEGA has also made the Sonic Adventure 2 Shoes available to all Sonic Frontiers players. The footwear was previously offered as a free reward for signing up for SEGA’s newsletter.
Sonic Frontiers Brings Its Open-Zone Adventure to Switch 2

Sonic Frontiers sends Sonic across the mysterious Starfall Islands, where he searches for the missing Chaos Emeralds while uncovering the secrets of an ancient civilization. The game combines traditional high-speed platforming with large open zones filled with exploration, puzzles, enemies and hidden areas.
Its combat system allows Sonic to use dodges, parries, counters and combos, alongside abilities unlocked through a skill tree. Players also face massive Titan enemies and can use the Cyloop ability as part of their strategy.
The Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 includes the game’s previously released content, including the Final Horizon campaign, which lets players control Tails, Amy and Knuckles. Additional content includes bonus challenges, costumes, music and collaborations.
The game also includes the Sonic Adventure 2 Shoes, Holiday Cheer Suit, Explorer’s Treasure Box, Monster Hunter Collaboration Pack and a digital art book and mini soundtrack.
