Soldier Episode 1 will introduce us to North Yorkshire’s British Army’s Infantry Training Centre, where thousands of males and females face mental and physical challenges during the selection for the brutal six-month course.
So, the BBC One Documentary series Soldier reveals what it takes to serve as a frontline soldier in the British Army and how fresh male and female civilians turn into infantry soldiers. The frontline roles became available for females in 2018. Soldier is an example of productive content across the United Kingdom.
According to BBC’s Head of Specialist Factual Commissioning, Jack Bootle, the upcoming series will explain to the viewers what happens behind the curtains at ITC, and he is delighted to bring it to the world. The series is directed by Paul Wells and produced by Kim Rossiter. It is executive produced by Simon Dickson, Lorraine Charker-Phillips, and Fran Baker.
The recruits appearing in the series are a 20-year-old child of a peacemaker, a 21-year-old footballer, an 18-year-old from a military background, a 17-year-old ex-restaurant worker, and more.
Soldier Episode 1 Preview
Soldier Episode 1 will introduce us to aspiring soldiers who left everything behind to join the British Army. There will be forty-five recruits at the beginning of the journey. Their trainers will put them through harsh obstacle courses and teach them to handle and fire weapons. Meanwhile, the recruits will also go through strict inspections.
The recruits must prove to their trainers that they deserve to be in the British Army. Let us see how many of the forty-five win. The first episode highlights Olivia Hall-Beakhouse’s journey. She was only eighteen and belonged to a military family. She joined the female infantry in 2018.
Another platoon member is Curtis Dryden, who proves how difficult it is for a civilian to accept army life. The twenty-one-year-old male from Middlesbrough was a footballer. One more journey of the youngest member, Callum Stretton, Seventeen, will also be shared in the first episode.
The training team consists of Sgt Barry McIntosh, Cpl Bell, Captain Bobby Gardner, Cpl Philip White, Cpl Christopher Dean, and Lt Wahab. They will test the recruits during the six-month training in Catterick, Yorkshire. Cpl White wants people to learn what hard work the new recruits go through. Moreover, he wants to eliminate myths about the British Army’s Infantry Training Centre (ITC).
In 2013, Cpl White entered the 1st Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. After nine years, he was asked to join the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Anglian Regiment. The recruits will undergo the brutal training from 05:30 AM to 09:00 PM or 10:00 PM. Every day will feel like an eternity.
The recruits might reach their beds, crawling with fatigue at the end of the day. According to Cpl White, his skills get boosted at the training center because he shares them with his students. It would not be possible while being in the battalion because the soldiers do not use every skill now and then.
Teaching the recruits requires patience, which Cpl White lacks. However, he thinks he has the leadership skills and understanding. Every recruit does not have the same background. So, Cpl White may appear, teaching them how to shave or tie a shoelace.
The soldier recruits shown in the upcoming series are Private Ethan Sherwood, Private Olivia Hall-Bakehouse, Private Callum Stretton, Private Josh Harte, Private Curtis Dryden, Private Owen South, Private Hope Mainwaring, Private Jamie Worley, and Private Jerry Okyere.
