In Shogun Episode 3, Ishido Kazunari is playing checkers while Yoshii Toranaga is playing chess. With his back to the wall, Toranaga uses his newfound friendship with John Blackthorne to play hardball with Ishido and his intention to impeach him.
Yabushige is questioned by Yoshii Toranaga regarding his involvement with Ishido’s plan to kill Blackthorne. Yabushige informs him that in return for his assistance, Ishido promised him a position on the Council. He sought Toranaga to extend his fief over the Suruga Province, claiming he was uninterested in the seat.
Toranaga promises to deliver it to him if he can get his Anjin, Lady Kiri, and crew to the Ajiro fishing town.
