The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again makes a bold choice that has left fans stunned. Foggy Nelson, played by Elden Henson, is killed in an unexpected and heartbreaking moment. His death has deeply affected longtime viewers of Daredevil, but Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum has assured fans that this is not the last time they will see him.
In a recent conversation with Brandon Davis, Winderbaum confirmed that both Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll, will return in Season 2. They may not be present for most of the first season, but their story is not over yet.
Winderbaum did not reveal how these characters would reappear, but he made it clear that they remain important to Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox. He stated that they are deeply connected to Matt’s journey and that their presence is essential. “There is no Matt Murdock story without those two characters,” he said.
The decision to remove Foggy from the story was not made easily. Winderbaum admitted that it led to many intense discussions among the team. “It’s not something that we took lightly,” he explained. “It led to many impassioned debates—many sleepless nights. Nobody wanted to do it, including me, but we all realized it needed to happen. The story needed it to happen.”

Matt Murdock Faces His Darkest Challenges
Winderbaum explained that Foggy’s absence plays a key role in Matt Murdock’s emotional journey. Losing his best friend forces Matt to confront his struggles in a way that only such a loss could bring about. “Matt has to struggle with his own internal demons,” he said.
This type of loss has appeared in Daredevil comics before. The consequences of violence shape Matt’s decisions, and the pain of losing someone close to him adds depth to his character.
Karen’s absence also has a strong impact on Matt. Winderbaum described her as someone who represents Matt’s true self. “She understands justice in a way that he does. That’s why he starts off with this balance—being a lawyer with his best friends while moonlighting as Daredevil.
But it’s untenable. That violence is going to hit home, and it comes at a great cost to his dearest friend. When she leaves the story, that’s when Matt starts living a lie.”
Season 2 Opens the Door to Surprises
The confirmation that Foggy and Karen will return in Season 2 raises many questions. Are they really gone, or is there more to the story? Could their return involve flashbacks, or does Marvel have a bigger surprise planned?
In the comics, Foggy’s death is faked at one point, so that could be a possibility in the show as well. Fans may hope for a similar twist that brings him back in a surprising way.
For now, Daredevil: Born Again continues to air weekly on Disney+, leaving fans eager to see what happens next.
