She-Hulk destroyed MCU customs in a fourth-wall-busting ending that still manages to maintain the traditional MCU post-credits scene. The She-Hulk finale deals with the consequences of Jennifer Walters’ rightful rage about having her privacy invaded by a bunch of male internet trolls going by the name of Intelligencia.
The series’ unfinished business, including Intelligence, Titania, the Hulk, and She-Hulk’s blood theft, come together at Emil Blonsky’s hideaway in the traditional MCU finale. But because Jen had imagined a different She-Hulk conclusion, she figuratively breaks the fourth wall to voice her displeasure with K.E.V.I.N, the AI in command of Marvel Studios’ content.
Jen and K.E.V.I.N have a conversation that highlights many of the problems with the MCU’s formulaic style of storytelling. In the end, Jen receives the happy ending she wishes for, but the MCU formula is still present.
She-Hulk Season 1 Post Credits Scene Explained
By the end of She-Hulk Episode 9, Blonsky is returned to prison because it was earlier found that he was violating his bail conditions by making an appearance as Abomination at speaking engagements. Immediately after the credits, the customary post-credits scene comes in which Wong releases Emil Blonsky from jail once more and offers him refuge at Kamar-Taj, which Emil accepts politely. This fulfills Wong’s initial promise to Blonsky for helping him in achieving Sorcerer Supreme; Emil initially turned down this offer because he wanted to express remorse for his acts as Abomination.
Abomination In Thunderbolts
It was speculated that Valentina may have needed the services of the Abomination, given Emil’s salvation in She-Hulk. She previously made appearances in Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow, assembling a more morally nuanced super-team in preparation for the 2024 Thunderbolts film. In 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, Emil Blonsky was chosen by General “Thunderbolt” Ross to face the Hulk, and the Abomination appeared to be a done deal for the MCU’s Thunderbolts group.
However, the Abomination was notably missing from the Thunderbolts lineup when it was announced at D23 Expo 2022. Blonsky has not been contacted by Valentina, which is not surprising. Emil left his life of service in the military and superhuman abilities behind after Jen Walters won his release in order to discover inner peace and support other superhumans, such as Man-Bull and Porcupine in She-Hulk, in doing the same.
He claims that the only reason he transforms into the Abomination is to earn money from public engagements, which he will probably put back into his retreat even if he still does so in the She-Hulk finale.
She-Hulk viewers might have thought that Emil would be given a deal by Valentina in the post-credits scene after he was sent back to jail for breaking his bail conditions. Instead, they observed Wong going back to Blonsky’s cell and extending another promise of safety at Kamar-Taj. Emil has a much nicer conclusion here than if he had been forced to work for the Thunderbolts. He can continue to work on himself and his pursuit of inner peace at Kamar-Taj. Emil ought to be able to dodge Val and the Thunderbolts with the help of the Masters of the Mystic Arts.
Will Abomination Return?
It’s uncertain whether the Abomination will make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe because She-Hulk is the only Marvel Studios movie listed on Tim Roth’s IMDb page. The Abomination doesn’t feel like the right match for the as-yet-unannounced Doctor Strange 3, despite the fact that he is now staying in Kamar-Taj.
While Marvel may have delayed revealing Blonsky’s role until after She-Hulk’s finale in order to avoid ruining the Disney+ series, the Thunderbolts post-credits scene does indicate that Blonsky will be hanging out at Kamar-Taj for at least some of his current prison sentence.
The Abomination might also show up in Captain America: New World Order, a future Marvel film that will see Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk make a return. Blonsky’s demand to be given a blood injection from Banner pushed Sterns to start working on the Abomination.
In the comics, Samuel Sterns took on the role of the evil Leader, and it has been revealed that the Incredible Hulk character, who is returning, will be the antagonist in Captain America 4. Sterns develops a mutation during the end of The Incredible Hulk that finally transforms him into the Leader.
Blonsky making a return to New World Order seems much more feasible given that it was his metamorphosis into the Abomination that led to Sterns’ exposure to Bruce Banner’s blood. Jen Walters made a strong case for K.E.V.I.N. and the MCU to try new things and move away from their formula, but Marvel Studios are still obtrusively doing so to some degree.
The She-Hulk season 1 post-credits scene between Blonsky Wong not only serves as a humorous flashback to Wong’s first proposal in episode 3, but it also offers a lot of potential for Abomination’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
