Tokyo Revengers is based on a manga written and illustrated by Ken Wakui. The manga became wildly popular after its serialization in the Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Many people loved the concept of time travel and the story that revolves around it. It is amazing how the mangaka managed to hold the attention of the audience with such a complex storyline.
The manga was soon adapted into an anime which also got a lot of attention from the viewers. The fans of the series sky-rocketed after the first season, and it was renewed for a second season soon enough. The popularity increased so much that there is even a live-action adaptation for the same, including some notable actors taking part in the series.
Recently, there was an announcement for a new live-action film to take place, and fans are very happy with this turn of events. Several fans have also fallen in love with the portrayal of the different characters in the series, and we can not deny that the story has a lot of likable characters.
Tokyo Revengers Plot
The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine from March 1, 2017, to November 16, 2022, and it has been collected in 31 volumes. The plot revolves around Takemichi Hanagaki, who is a lazy guy in his mid-’20s. One day he learns that his ex-girlfriend Hinata Tachibana died in an accident related to the Tokyo Manji Gang.
The very next day, someone tries to kill him by pushing him onto a subway platform, and at this moment, he jumps 12 years back in time. This is how he decides to save Hinata’s life, whom he still has lingering feelings for. The plot is complex, and there are many twists and turns along the way that keeps the fans at the tip of their toes.
While going back and forth in time, Takemichi keeps on changing the future, and in his quest to create a happy future for everyone, he keeps on messing things up. It is very interesting to see the variations in the ripples of time along with the blossoming friendship between Takemichi and the core members of the Tokyo Manji Gang.

Tokyo Revengers Adaptations
The manga completed its run in 2022. There have been several spin-off mangas, like the parody titled Tōdai Revengers, written and illustrated by Shinpei Funatsu. One of the famous ones is the spin-off manga focused on the relationship between Keisuke Baji and Chifuyu Matsuno, which was written and illustrated by Yukinori Kawaguchi.
The anime adaptation was first released in 2021 by Liden Films, followed by the second season in the year 2023. The third season was also announced on April 1, 2023, and will probably air the next year. The first live-action was announced in February 2020 and was premiered on July 9, 2021. The fans absolutely loved the film, and now there has been an official announcement for the next film that will adapt the “Bloody Halloween” arc.
The second film will be divided into two parts, titled Unmei and Kessen. The first film premiered on April 21, 2023, and the second one is scheduled to be premiered on June 30 of this year. There have also been stage plays of the series produced by Office Endless.
Tokyo Revengers Live Action 2 Trailer
A new trailer and visual for the second film were officially announced, and fans are filled with excitement over the upcoming date. The trailer also revealed the film’s theme song named, “Hakanakunai” (Not Merely Fleeting), which is performed by SUPER BEAVER. They were also responsible for the theme song “Gradation,” which was used in the first part of the film.
It was also revealed that the cast members for the first film are once again returning for their character roles. Takumi Kitamura, Ryo Yoshizawa, and Yuki Yamada will return to their roles as the characters of Takemichi, Mikey, and Draken, respectively.
The new characters who are joining the cast are Kento Nagayama as Keisuke Baji, Nijiro Murakami as Kazutora Hanemiya, and Mahiro Takasugi as Chifuyu Matsuno. Fans are very excited to see them in action.
