Recap
“The Promise,” the opening episode of SWAT Season 7, begins with a flashback to a horrific incident that Hondo (Shemar Moore) discovered ten years prior. Pia, the woman’s daughter, is pleading for assistance from a locked room as the mother’s throat has been sliced. After a scuffle, he and the murderer drop their weapons, and the murderer flees.
In the moment, Hondo is no longer in contact with Pia. After growing up, she relocated to Miami. Hondo learns that Verdugo, the El Salvadorian criminal who killed Rita, is being returned to the United States as soon as he assumes leadership of his team.
To turn over Verdugo, Hondo travels to Mexico City with his group, which also includes Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit), Deacon (Jay Harrington), and Tan (David Lim). Pia unexpectedly turns up for the deportation hearing because she wishes to speak with her mother’s killer. However, Verdugo escapes with the aid of an IED and motorcycles.
Pia informs Hondo that she left college early and is currently exploring Central America. She used dating apps to connect with gang members in order to locate Verdugo. She makes an anonymous police call, which aids in Verdugo’s capture, but she is disappointed when he escapes.
Hondo and his group have been invited to assist the Mexican police in their search for Verdugo. Fernando, one of the riders who assisted them in escaping, provides them with a hint. Fernando informs everyone that Verdugo is plotting a significant theft and has an agreement with a man by the name of El Barbon.
El Barbon is located by the crew, but he is escaping, so they are unable to stop him. They learn that Verdugo took a bomb, capable of destroying an entire city, from the Mexican government. Pia intends to murder Verdugo herself since she believes she killed her mother.
Verdugo snatches her, anticipating Pia’s arrival. Hondo arrives just in time to save Verdugo by shooting him. However, the bomb is still missing. Pia informs Verdugo that she believes she killed her mother because, when they went into hiding, she took her cell phone with her, which allowed him to find them.
At the end of the show, Gabriel assaults Powell because he stole a powerful vacuum bomb. Viewers can relax knowing that Powell’s condition is not as dire as it appears, despite the intensity and amount of activity.
